I just picked up a DMPS LR308C. The HBAR variant. I want to make it more of a hunting rifle . I want to put a palm swell grip, low profile gas block and free float hand guard on it. I sent trigger off to Bill S. to do the trigger. i want to take front sight off and replace with a low pro gas block . I am looking for a decent but cheaper one. I am kinda doing a poor mans SASS. I ordered a low budget sniper scope. I measured the barrel at .750. Going to keep the 20" barrel for now and just make it nicer looking and operating. Any ideas on the gas block ?

I just read all this and saw i said " I" this and that so many times ! hahaha Need to not drink whiskey and post ! hahahahhahaha

Happy Holidays

What is your reason for a low profile gas block?  I have a DPMS LR.308 with a 6-24 power target type scope on it.  The picatinny rail gas block does not interfere in any way with the scope.  In fact many people run scopes with standard AR front sights without any problems.

As to the trigger, I would highly recommend a nice two stage trigger for your rifle.  The standard trigger on AR style rifles (DPMS LR.308 included) is an awful system for accurate shooting.  The trigger can be improved slightly with polishing of the sear and lighting of the hammer and trigger springs but it will still be terrible and the lock time will be even worse than the already extremely slow time of the stock trigger.  There are a number of quite reasonable triggers from Rock River, CMMG, and others, that fundamentally change the way the trigger system works, at reasonable cost (about $100).  I have 2 Rock River Match triggers and they are a huge improvement over stock.  I also have a Geissele match trigger which is better still but almost three times the money.

Rail gas block would be fine, need to find a cheaper one . I wanted a target barrel and crown but I ll settle for HBAR barrel for now. I ll have to settle for a trigger job for now. Want to get a palm swell grip and hand guard first. Kinda a SASS look

thanks

can always just use a dremal and cut off the front sight right above the gas tube part. seen it done several times. then just reblue. as low profile as it gets and its free
dosnt look bad either when it has been reblued.

Look up 15 minute trigger job.  Did it to my LR 308 and it works great.  I have intended on bobbing my hammer also, but never got around to it.  I cut my railed gas block down on the band saw so I could put a longer carbon fiber handguard over it.  worked fine, although I still cant decide wether I like the cf gaurd or not.  It did lighten it up though.

I saw that 15 min trigger job where they bend the springs. But I just had Bill Springfield do a a trigger job where he stoned the surfaces. Can I ALSO bend the spring after it was done ?

I have a .750 barrel. I did like some of those on Midway though. Thanks !

Bill bends your springs I think.  My LR-308 stock trigger sucked, and after Bill worked on it it still sucked.  All the other brands I have used are decent out of box and Bill's job turned out great.  I bought a RRA 2 state for mine.  You can also buy the reduced power JP springs to use with the trigger.

The springs werent bent. They were straight still. Its a lot better than it was. But its about 3.5 to 4 and gun is new. The JP spring may be a good idea.

I set up my 308C exactly how you described. I bought a RRA railed gas block on the EE for $25 and it fit and functioned fine. I kept the A2 HG's after my much publicized rant on trying to add a free float tube and added an ergo grip and a RRA 2 stage. With a Primary Arms 1-4x DMS scope it's deadly accurate. I like the set up. It's heavy as hell but does great things down range. Bigger glass will be on top soon.

is there an issue converting it to free float tube ?
