How often should I use a copper solvent on my bores? Will regular solvent work just as well if I let it soak for a while? Thanks Brad |
| I have heard that a copper solvent is very hard on a nickel acetate finish (Bushmaster uses this type of finish after anodizing) The finish is also present on the inside of the upper, I dont use it as it can attack the finish.. According to Bushmaster a chrome bore will never come completely clean anyway, The nickel acetate is what keeps a Bushmaster from having the purple hue as some have complained about, so using a solvent that attacks it isnt a good idea.. My two cents.. John |
| I always use one of the solvents, Hoppe's, Shooter's Choice, or Sweet's 7.62 in all my firearms. The mild amonia reacts with the copper fouling in the barrel and removes the bullet jacket left on the lands and in the grooves of the barrel. I do this with my match rifles as well as my old "beaters." When I can see copper fouling at the muzzle using a flash light, I go to JB bore paste, granted I am some what of a fanatic about a clean barrel, but I've never had one go south on me.......well not yet anyway. |

I tried the Break Free bore cleaner, that stuff wont react W/ nickel or copper, it cleans really well also.. Use it on my Kimber too.. On my Bushmaster I always use a bore snake W/ some Breakfree, Good results.. Bushmaster says to really make an attempt at a squeaky clean bore after accuracy is affected ie. 3 to 4k rounds.. I listen to those guys , they built the Damn thing. |
