Anyone every encountered a problem with sellers swapping floorplates on used mags?  Is there a quick and easy way to identify counterfeit mags?

I've seen tons of used, low-mileage mags on the Equipment Exchange.  "Used only once by a little old lady on her way to church on Sunday..."

Thanks.

Buy them new from a reputable retailer.

Also alot of mags that I've had experience with have the company name stamped on th floorplate and on the side of the mag. But like I said, new mags are so inexpensive, I wouldn't even mess around buying used mags IMHO.

There are collectors of just about everything, mags included. Bastardized Colts are quite popular at the gunshows. I'm in agreement with the above post as to buying your mags new from a reliable source. Unless your doing a retro, go with new. Mags are cheap.

Its quite possible they were switched out during use....

Pvt. Joe Snuffy or Police Officer Donut eater dont really care who the mags are made by, or what floor plates go with each..

If a mag has colt, okay, nhtmg (or however its spelled) on the floorplate, it should also have a corresponding stamping into the mag body.  Honestly mags are cheap enough that there can't be much money to make in counterfeiting them.

I would rather purchase NIW if possible because this is something that can save my life but since I'm behind enemy lines I need to purchase preban

You can still find NIW preban mags for sale.

OKay makes Colt and NHMTG mags, so all three will have 33710 (Okay's CAGE Code) stamped on the body, even though different floorplates.

A local guy was trying to pass Cooper magazines as Colts a few years ago.  Obvious floor-plate switch.

In the past year we have received about 100 magazines with C Products floor plates that were steel not stainless steel. Just a word of caution, when the deal sounds to good to be true, most likely it isn't.

My favorite is that asshole who made the magazines with "Colt AR-15" stamped on the floorplate. Lots of people got taken by him. Those made the gun show circuit nationwide.
