I'm trying to plan out my LR-308 build, this will be my first build. Just got a couple questions.
1. Anybody used the side cocking Fulton Armory upper and bolt? Is there any downside to it? 2. I think I'll be using a DPMS barrel, can I use a standard AR15 low-pro gas block? 3. Can I use a Geisselle SSA AR15 trigger? (would match my AR15) 4. Is there anyway or is it worthwhile to do a gas piston on it? 5. I'm thinking a Trjicon TA11E or TA33R-9 optic, any suggestions? Thanks for all the help, this is what I'm thinking so far, I'm trying to keep it lightweight, any ideas would be great. It sounds like a nice setup. But with a 24 inch barrel I would think a nice variable scope would fit it better than an ACOG. Something like a Valdada,NF,OR US Optics. If I had money to spare I would look into a different barrel also like a Krieger or something. But that is just my opinion. Its your rifle build it as crazy as you want. I wish I could build up another LR in 260 set up for long range. But feeding my current LR is expensive. I have to wait till next year at least.
Have fun, AL |

The side cockers look cool, never tried one.
Yes you can use a DPMS barrel, and AR-15 gas block. A block is a block is a block, just get the right size to fit the barrel. What contour barrel? Length? The main thing I dont like about most of the DPMS barrels < 20" is that the gas port is in the carbine position. I'd rather have a mid-length system. You can use any AR-15 trigger. Some the surplus ammo has harder primers and thats why you seem hammers with more mass and heavier springs some times. If you do a gas piston, you would be the first one I have seen. POF is the only set up I know of in 308, and that's not a kit. I have a TA-33, and love it. Get a LaRue mount. What type of stock are you looking at? If carbine, I recommend using an AR-10 tube. Write up on stock research |

Thanks for the info so far. I'm wanting to keep the gun as lightweight as possible, thats why I'm looking at 16" barrels. Are there any other makers that have 16" mid-length barrels? I don't plan on shooting beyond 200 yards with it very often, mostly building it for fun, SHTF and hunting if needed.
The stock was another thing I'm not really sure about, cav_scout_tj, does that AR10 buffer tube allow any AR15 stock? I like that Vltor, but again want to keep it lightweight. |

Yes any carbine stock which slips on a mil-spec receiver extension tube will work on the AR-10 tube.
For barrels checkout: http://shop.si-defense.com/Barrels_s/49.htm Nice barrels but carbine length gas. You could even go 14.5" put a perm flash hider. That would be a handy little toy. Fulton also sells a good barrel. Armalite also makes some good choices. Armlite carbine gas is close to normal midlength. Get the tube from them when you get the barrel. You can also find barrels on the EE. |
