I'm trying to change the flash hider on my AR,now how the hell do I get the sonofabitch off?!

It's got a split on one side so I think it's a locking? washer?? or is it a crush type???

My temper is at it's limits so here I am-halp!

If you think you can twist it off, try boiling water on the flash hider for about 20 seconds.. just dribble some boiling water on it... then give 'er a twist.

How long is the barrel? The FH might be permantly attached, usually with a pin. Some more info on the rifle or the upper might help us help you.

No way it's pinned on,it's a twenty inch A2.

Boling water is close to what I had in mind-a propane torch.

I had a wrench on it and pounding on that with a hammer, sucker is on tight

Sounds like a lock washer. If its not pinned then heat it up a bit and grab a breaker bar. Be damn sure its not pinned first.

Used older barrel perhaps? If that is the case you are probably fighting carbon buildup.
You can soak it in solvent as well for a little while after it cools down. Then go at it again.

It's an old PWA with a serial number starting at 26**** so it may have a bit'o carbon

Also I can see no pin.

Try the water first. A torch can do baaaad things to the steel if it is improperly used.

Also try putting an ice cube on the barrel before you put hot water on the flash hider... this will make the temp differential a lot greater.

do you try to turn it clock wise ,,or counter clock wise

You do realize the threaded part of the barrel is rather thin ,,to much force and you have a twisted barrel end

Actually Frank I thought about it and decided that if I go "hot" I'll grab the heat gun I have laying about first, but I'll go the water or cleaning solvent first.

And @Wolf-Yea I figger things aren't so thick out at the end so I'm being less of my gorilla self

And yes,I'm turning it the right way.
