Back in the day, when I was a lowly AR-15 n00b and didn't know as much as I do now (because *CLEARLY* I'm an expert now ) I purchased a RRA A2 Midlength with CAR stock. Soon after my purchase I discovered the awesome versatility that is the A4 flattop upper, as opposed to having a fixed carry handle upper. Currently I would like to sub out the A2 upper for the A4 upper. I've checked around extensively, and from what I can gather headspace will not be an issue so long as I use the same barrel and bolt, correct?

Opinion interjection opportunity 1: Should I keep the fixed A2 sight or go with a Flip Front Sight Gas Block (a la RRA or YHM)?

Opinion interjection opportunity 2: If I do the above, should I wait to do so until after I've purchased a new rail system, so that I can remove sight post, etc... in one fell swoop?

I appreciate your wisdom.

Opinion 1) completely up to your discretion and preference.  I assume that you are going flat top in order to mount some kind of red dot or ACOG.  If so, you can shoot over the front post no problem.  It is your preference if you want the post in the middle of your sight picture when you aren't using iron sights.  I have flip up for both front and back, I keep them both down when using the red dot and I like it this way.  Some people like it the other way around.  If you go flip up you have the choice to leave it up all of the time.  If you leave what you have you don't have that option.

Opinion 2) Depends on the gas block you buy and how much you like messing with your gun.  I have a micro gas block and it was the biggest PITA to get on so I wouldn't ever want to pull it off unless I was scrapping it and could cut it off.  If you buy something that uses screws to tighten the block it might not be that big of a deal but others are radiused tight enough that it isn't a fun day when you have to mess with them.  I would probably elect to get it all figured out and do it all at once.  Plus, if you do it this way you will have plenty of parts to justify a new build
