Update:  I picked up a Surefire M951 on the EE for a steal, and one of the Bushnell TRS-25 bundles from PA when they were on sale, along with extra batteries for both.  All that remains is a sling and a magpul light set, maybe a tape switch for the light.  Anyone know where to get a cheap M49 mount (thumbscrew) for the light or standard throw lever?  Cheapest I'm finding is $25+shipping on optics planet, but for that I'll just save up a bit more and get an ADM mount or something.

So, I'm nearly done with my rifle build and wanted to get some opinions on it.  This rifle was previously poorly done in camo, and is now back to its proper shades.  Considering my low income, I've been trying to build a rifle that will last practically forever without any significant part replacement (beyond the usual stuff)  I still need to add an optic, flashlight, and sling.  Beyond that, she's done I think.

Rainier Arms Combat Series Upper (DD CHF Barrel, XTC Comp, Mil Spec everything else) MOE rear sight (might do a troy later)
Umbrella Corp Lower (extremely low #) with milspec parts, kns pins (they make the trigger pull less gritty) and the usual magpul stuff, A2 stock.

As for an optic, I am 99% likely going with a Meprolight M21.  I'm still trying to find a good flashlight in AA format, and a sling that I like.  I'd get the blackhawk for simplicity, but its a fairly well permanent attachment (just not fast to take off)  Seriously considering adding QD swivels to the handguard and stock then running a padded vtac.

Don't mind my possum.  She just likes to curl up on my spot on the bed.

From the look of things you need to build it out as a Varmint for the varmint.

Kinda similar to my setup.
I wanted something that was lightweight, and could have an optic (both a RDS and magnified) and a weapon light easily added.
I run a padded VTac with HK style hooks at each end, and run it as a one-point sling on a castle-nut  single point, and then lengthen the sling and hook it to the sling swivel at the front to use as a two-point sling as well.
I would go with the Troy rear sight, I really like mine and it is a solid product.

I have an Insight Technology WL1-AA on EE for $140. It takes AA batteries, mounts to a picatinny and is low profile. Take a look at it and send me a PM if you're interested.

You said you were interested in a flashlight. I have a novatac light and have been very pleased with it. Its programable, 120 lumens max, and around $65 for light and mount. Its not AA, but outside of that i think its an outstanding package.

Nice rifle btw, get some Pmags and enjoy mayng

Try the Magpul Scout Mount.  I believe that has the holes for the 951.  Ask in the Magpul industry section if it will work.

OP, if you want a REALLY inexpensive light mount, you can get this one from DX for about 7 bucks:

Yes, it Chinese, but it's well-made and strong as mare's breath, and if they ever invade us you can use it against them and get the last laugh.

Is the mount designed just to have the light screw to it?
