I am installing a Troy Extreme 15" tube on my carbine and have cut my front sight base down for clearance. As of now, the free float tube will fit over the gas block, but there is not much space between the "shoulders" of the gas block and the top of the tube, where the rail meets the round part. How much clearance do I need, and is there a rule of thumb for how much material I can remove from the gas block before it loses integrity?

As long as when the rail is on it isn't touching then you are fine. If the rail will flex and touch thats no big deal unless you would be that worried about the "float" aspect. I took some more material off yesterday and it looks "similar" to the one posted above. I was worried that the barrel whip would tear up my tube, or hurt accuracy, by slapping it with the gas block. Looks like it will be fine. Thanks |
