| I currently shoot CMP matches uding my M1, but want to start using my AR next season. I currently have a Colt Match Target. I took it out yesterday to sight it in for 100yds shooting prone, but was pretty disappointed in the groups. My question is, would I really get a benefit from buying a Bushmaster or Rock River DCM rifle to shoot matches with? I'll still keep my Colt around but would devote the DCM to shooting matches... Any input would be greatly appreciated! |

Try several types of ammo like 68 and 69 BTHP or 75 to 77gr BTHP My LMT M4 shoots a ragged hole MY rack grade A1 Bushmaster 20 hbar with a 10x scope prone at 100 yards could shoot under 1 inch with federal 69gr bthp COULD just buy a MATCH RRA upper or DCM bushy Both are FINE |
Your M4 would NOT be legal in NRA Highpower Service rifle comps. and X-Course matches start at 200 yards - standing, sitting at 300 and prone at 600 yards so you'll want AT MINIMUM a good 77 smk load to cover yourself from 200-600yds. mike |
| My shooting ability is about average I would say. I average about 85% at most shoots with a CMP M1 as issued. The thing about my Colt is, I really don't want to mess with it as far as barrel floating, trigger job, etc. I would rather just leave it factory being that it is a Colt. I haven't messed with many DCM AR's, and just want to know that it would be worth it before I drop $1000 - $1200 on one. It would really suck to spend that kind of money, and find that it doesn't improve my scores any over what I already have... |

The fit between the lower and upper would be more critical than the lower itself, as well as the 2-stage trigger used. My friend's ARMALITE CMP SR shot 1/2 moa @ 100 yards during load development at its best. May want to look there as well. The extra $100 on a WOA NM upper versus the RRA upper is money well spent for several reasons: Windage adjustable front sight base for a mechanical zero 1-7 twist barrel (plus Frank White of Compass Lake chambers the barrel) Pinned rear sight w/ three hood sizes |

Just save yourself time and money and get a complete RRA DCM rifle. Shoot it till you get a Master Card than send the upper off to WOA etc for a new barrel and better trigger and press on... As for the Colt.. leave it as is. A stock Colt 1:7 HBAR with match trigger/sights and a DCM tube will shoot right up there, seen it done. |
