Damn....hard choice....RRA middy is keeper IMHO. The midlength gas system will give you the smoother recoil pulse for your hunting/shooting/competition activities.

[#2]
Does your poll mean which one to keep, or which one to sell?

Sell the Y comp'd upper if you have to sell.
8/7/2006 2:09:40 PM EDT
[#3]
Ditch the Y-comped Bushy.
8/7/2006 2:12:46 PM EDT
[#4]
Let me know why you'd get rid of one or the other - it'll help me make my final decision.
8/7/2006 3:08:43 PM EDT
[#5]
Reasons.

1) The Y-comp sucks
2) The RRA middy is a joy to shoot
3) The Bushy upper with the RAS will bring you some decent money. If you need money that bad, might as well sell the one that will bring the most.

Just my $.02

Have you shot them? (you didn't say if they were new)
Keep the 1 that shoots the best for you.

[#7]
I'm not selling either one because I need money, it's that I don't need (don't freak out) both of them, just one.

I have shot them both, and like them both. They shoot equally well, the carbine does not have any more recoil than the middy. Why does everyone say the Y-comp sucks so bad? I like the Knight's rails on it, would have to add something to the middy so I could put a light on it if that's the one I keep.

[#8]
RRA, hands down!
8/7/2006 5:35:29 PM EDT
[#9]
I'll take the mid-length gas system over the carbine gas system any day.

Less wear and tear on the operating parts.

That's an AK-74 muzzle brake, not a Y-Comp, mounted on the Bushmaster.

The military doesn't seem to have a problem with the wear and tear on the carbine systems.

wow, that was easy

RRA middy

[#12]
As much as I love Bushmaster, I have to say keep the RRA. I am sold on the midlength gas system.

[#13]
ditch the braked upper... why?

I've seen the difference between a brake and a flash suppessor at night, and believe me, you dont want a brake at night or even somewhat low light.
8/7/2006 7:08:51 PM EDT
[#14]
I like the look of the carbine, but have put a lots of rounds through the midlength and it is a tackdriver. I just need to get some rails for the middy. Anyone have some they wanna get rid of? I think y'all are leaning me towards the middy . . . .
8/7/2006 7:31:46 PM EDT
[#15]
Middy upper. Honestly, I have always been opposed to AK stuff on ARs, or AR stuff on an AK. So that being said, I think a 74 comp on an AR is a bit odd. However, these are issues of form, and I suppose this ought to be second to function.....sure the 74 comp does work well.
8/7/2006 7:41:46 PM EDT
[#16]
Okay, everyone seems to be getting hung up on this AK74 muzzle brake - so, muzzle brake aside, still going with the middy? What's my biggest advantages of staying with the middy over the carbine length gas system?
8/7/2006 7:50:00 PM EDT
[#17]
I voted for you to keep the Bushy upper, you can sell the RRA mid-length to me.
8/7/2006 8:23:36 PM EDT
[#18]
The Bushmaster of course, because of the stuff it has going for it:

- Fluted Barrel
- Knight's RAS system
- Trijicon front sight

Slap an A2 flash supressor on there and you've got a good thing going.

The midlength...well...it looks better in my book but that's about it.

Longer forearm meaning more hand placement area and/or more rail space.
Softer recoil impulse.
Increased odds of reliability.
Longer iron sight radius.
Less exposed barrel.
Longer barrel for more bullet velocity.
All the above and its normally only about .5" longer overall than a 14.5 with a permanantly attached brake/FS.

RRA mid. Lighter weight. Longer sight radius. The KACII Hump will limit optics that you can use.

Sell the KAC II RAS

Over 530 reads, only 80 votes and 16 replies? Come on ARFCOM, you can do better than that - how long can it take to let me know what you think? It'll help, really, it will. Thanks!

AK brakes blow, fluting is weird-looking on a carbine, and mid-length is much better overall for about every reason you can think of.  No choice for me - RRA should be saved, hands down.

ETA: No, nevermind - sell both and get an AMEETECH middy upper.  They're gov't profiled (skinny under handguards) and have the same kind of lifetime warranty that the RRA has.
8/9/2006 2:36:54 PM EDT
[#24]
Okay, anyone want to trade my carbine upper for a railed midlength?
8/9/2006 3:28:39 PM EDT
[#25]
Yes, a hard choice indeed...  But it got alot easier after seeing the fluted barrel & that ugly AK brake.  Just doesn't look right on an AR...  Kinda like an M4gery with a bipod & a scope...
8/9/2006 3:35:20 PM EDT
[#26]
I've never been a big fan of RRAs, but that one is more versatile than the BM.  The AK style break looks like it is put on perm., but then again I think the bbl on the BM is worth more simply because it's flutted.

stop playing with us & put that bushy up for sale on EE. wait until you see that middy with the right rail sys on it!
8/9/2006 7:13:49 PM EDT
[#28]
What I really want is a good rail system for my middy. That's really what is so attractive about the bushy to me. Anyone got a good middy with a rail system on it they want to trade for the bushy carbine ?
8/9/2006 8:23:25 PM EDT
[#29]
I'd keep the Bushy,I've had the best luck with their's and Colt's barrels. I would add an A2 flash hider and put the backup sight on it.

I would Keep the Mid length RRA.

+1 for the A2 FH over the AK brake
+1 because I prefer the mid length
+1 because I think fluting should be for the longer bull barrels, and not a carbine.

Go ahead and get a rail system for the mid if you want it customized to add a light or VFG, or you could just get a bolt on weaver rail for a light underneath.

We all have our opinions, Thanks for listening to mine....

I'd go with the Middy - more real estate on the hanguards, and longer sight raduis.  Also, just looks closer to right to me (and I dan't own one yet, dang it).

Saw an M&P 15T in the gun store today - those railed mid-length handguards look totally righteous. Someone please trade my railed carbine for your railed midlength.

Yeah. I will never shoot a CAR again so long as I can shoot a middy
