| I am curious as to the complications and things that you might run into when changing your stock FSB to say a low profile one? Are pinned FSB's better than bolt on one's? Thanks for the help in advance. |

I think your biggest problem will be matching the holes already in the barrel to the holes you'll have to drill in the new FSB (if it's pin-on).
Normally the front sight base is positioned on the barrel, then the FSB and the barrel are drilled for the pins simultaneously. Then the holes are reamed for the taper of the pins. Basically no two barrel/FSB combinations are the same - the holes are drilled and reamed together for a custom fit. If I were changing an FSB to a different type, I'd for sure use a clamp-on type. |

Quoted: thats what im planning on doing when i get a ff tubeI recommend cutting the top of the stock FSB, round/grind/finish it and then cover it with a long free float railed hand guard. You keep the critical part of the OEM pinned component. I've done it with success. |

Quoted: Don't even remove the FSB, with a swazall, dremel tool, bench grinder, etc... it can all be done right on the barrel.Quoted: thats what im planning on doing when i get a ff tubeI recommend cutting the top of the stock FSB, round/grind/finish it and then cover it with a long free float railed hand guard. i agree with the above.
you can't go wrong with it as long as you don't mind giving up your front sight. if you're scoping it/adding holo sight you'll never know its gone. its the cheapest and easiest way to get what you want, and with a little black paint and some time nobody will be able to tell it isnt a low pro. covering it with a nice long quadrail never hurts either. |
