How would you rate DPMS to Stag receivers

I like DPMS.

I like DPMS alot.

But Stag beats them by a long shot.

I don't like DPMS, because the one I have lousy. I do like any of the Continental built receivers, whether Stag, Rock River, or Century, brcause they're not as lousy as the DPMS piece.

Now, you're going to get postings from about a zillion DPMS owners, most of whom are going to tell you how great their piece is.  About 1 in 5 is going to post that his DPMS piece is aPOS, just as I have done.

And that's about the defect rate on DPMS stuff---20%.  If you think that's acceptable, then go DPMS.  If you think a 1% or less defect rate is better, go for the Stag.

well i like DPMS, when combined with their parts the lower is just as good as anyone elses. or any spec part for that matter. i wont sit here and bring up statistics to justify or damn my point of view or worse, no position at all. to me they are 100% in spec. i remember fellas bringing up rock river and how good they are, then no time at all went buy and a lot starting saying they were way too tight. the same can be said about all of them at some time or other. the only way you will get a 100% lower or upper all the time is to hand pick them yourself off of the line. thats the only way to know for sure. i have heard of a custom gunmaker specializing in AR's turning out a bad rifle. then again i have heard of a fella making an AR so accurate at home that it puts them all to shame. and vice versa. My DPMS is a forged one out of 7075, which is mil-spec as close as you can find, i forget what type, but whatever is spec to the military so far as anodizing, thats what mine is. all parts fit like a glove, the trigger pull is a measured 4.5 pds, with a touch of creep. maybe I got lucky on that but hey its what I got the first time, so take that for what its worth.

I don't know about Stag But I just built up a DPMS. All the parts went in great But the finish sucks. I put a peice of tape on it and it peeled off part of the finish. Now I have the custom silver speckle finish

DPMS makes GREAT lowers.... but they teflon their finish, and to me this is a negative.  I want milspec hard coat anodizing and thats it.

Bushmaster is my lower of choice.  However, I will build on any CMT lower as a cheap alternative.

My last three builds were on DPMS lowers, no problems, good finish, excellent parts fit.

That sucks, if my finish on any of my firearms peeled off with tape I'd definately be getting ahold of the manufacturer.  According to the DPMS website it says their lowers are hardcoat anodized and teflon finished.

I just got done building up my dpms lower and had no problems whatsoever with a rock river parts kit and stock set

DPMS anodizes AND hard coats then teflon coats it...  This is from DPMS...

FALARAK : DPMS lowers are 7075 T6 forgings witch are hard coat anodized to Mil spec , the black teflon caoting is added to give an even harder surface and allowing the uppers and lowers to match in color. At one time DPMS made investment cast lowers from the same material these were discontinued last spring FYI[ they were made by Ruger in one of there plants]
From talking to several people I know in the industry most of the forgings that are being used by the mfg's are coming primarily from 2-forging companies. These same companies are suppling the military contractors as well  as Bushmaster,DPMS, Ameetec, LAR,Stag and Mega.
There all good receivers.

Will it be a problem refinishing a DPMS lower with Molly Resin.

I don't think the finish would come off if it was anodized not from tape any way. I'm going to try some Dura coat I think since I have to order some anyway. I ordered mine with a friend and his looks the same to me as mine did before the tragic tape attackhinking.gif

I am asking about Molly Resin over the Teflon? Has anyone done it?

Guys, you arent telling me anything I dont know.

I know they are hard coat anodized.  I'd just prefer they left it at that.  And Teflon is NOT a "harder" surface.... and I dont care if my upper matches my lower.

I'd just prefer they did the hard coat anodize in black, and leave it be.  I dont like the teflon.... dont see the point.  Just my opinion.... still would not feel under-armed with a DPMS.

I was looking at a few DPMS lowers at a gun show last weekend. They definetely don't seem to be as shiny as my Ameetec lower that is also Teflon coated. I don't know what the Teflon coating is supposed to do. My Ameetec looks nice...but I still don't know what the "benefit" to Teflon is supposed to be.

I don’t know about the teflon being harder either.  I still scratched my first one, even with taped vice grips.  This may just be because I'm a noob though?

So is $129 too much to pay for a stripped DPMS? It's the only lower I can find on the self without going to a gunshow or ordering online.

89 GRAND : the beginning surface prep will play a big part in the amount of shine in the finished product, lite bead blast  will  generally get you a shinier finish in the teflon coat. One of the reasons for purple receivers is the minimal or lack of of surface bead blast prior to anodizing.

You can get stripped ones from keiselers for $99

I've never had issues with any ones I worked on.
