I am converting from a colaspible stock tube to a fixed stock tube.  Do I need a longer buffer spring for the new tube?  The Spring does not pertrude from the new tube as much as it did in the colaspible tube.

Yea, if you got a carbine length stock, you need a carbine buffer and spring. Rifle stock -> rifle buffer/spring.  Also, AR-15 (.223) parts will not work on .308 weapons.
