| I purchased and installed a DPMS A3 upper receiver for my DPMS rifle. When I was re-assembling the rifle, I noticed I could not pivot close the new upper receiver to my lower. I then noticed the bolt carrier is not flush with the new upper receiver and extends out past the upper receiver 3/32" to 1/8" which is catching on the recoild spring assembly. I just sent DPMS customer service and email with pics inquiring about this. Anybody have any ideas? Is the rifle safe to shoot? Thanks! |

Below are a couple of pics. It's tough see and the quality of the pics is not that good.

Instead of pivoting it off of the front takedown pin, put the back of the lower receiver in first and slide the upper on rearward... or simply push the bolt in with your hands while pivoting it on.
It's not uncommon and, in my opinion, a BCG like that will actually take some of the stress off the buffer retaining pin, as the bolt will keep it from contacting the pin when the buffer starts to move back forward after each shot. |

The lower and upper receiver will close if I remove the bolt carrier assembly. Also, I have ensured that the bolt is rotating freely and not getting hung up. I simply can not push the bolt carrier in any further...but the bolt appears to lock into battery.
As for sliding in the lower receiver and lining up the holes and assembling the rifle, I have done that and the rifle does go back together. I think my main concerns are safety with firing the weapon and any adverse affects to th cycling of the weapon. Thanks for the help everybody! |

The charging handle was missing from the picture just to help with the picture itself. The problem persisted with the charging handle both in use and not in use. I've tried using the old charging handle from my A2 with no luck. And we used my friends Colt BCG in my upper receiver and got the same results.
I just got off the phone with DPMS and they think the issue is a change in the "head spacing" where the bolt locks into battery. Does this make sense to anyone else? I think I will be taking this to a local gun smith. |

Quoted:
Yes. It means your head spacing is off. Which means it should NOT be fired until it is fixed. The bolt still goes into battery though. It still twists and lines up with the barrel lugs. And we can see where the bolt carrier is rubbing on the upper receiver. It just looks like there is a slight mechining difference between the two uppers and the new one needs to be broken in. No matter. |
| I decided to take my rifle to a gunsmith and have it looked at and it was the best $43 I've spent in a while. As it turns out, the original gas tube that came with thel rifle was too long....strange. The gunsmith put in a brand new gas tube, and the gun went together perfectly. Hopefully I'll get to shoot this weekend! |
