| My friend put a DPMS Sportical on lay-away yesterday, and as I was looking at the gun while he was doing paperwork, I noticed that there aren't any cutouts on the receiver side of the castle nut to allow for staking. This is the first DPMS I've ever handled, but is this common to their rifles? I found it rather strange, as every AR I've known has the "normal" nut. |

Both of my DPMS rifles (5.56 and a .308) in AP4 format have notched castle nuts. The .308 came staked and the 5.56 was not staked. I quickly remedied that. FS |
| if it is the sportcal then it doenst have the same qulaity as others DPMS builds. Its a lower budget ar 15. nuthin wrong with that just prolly why it dont have the notched nut. i have the dpms AP4 and the castle nut is notched. the sprotcal is the stripped down version still a good gun tho. |
I'm not concerned about the nut working loose, since it's evidently Loctited, but I'm more curious as to how this thing ended up with a non-notched nut if DPMS is saying that it should have one. Not a knock against the gun's quality, but there are design reasons I wouldn't buy it myself (no dust cover or forward assist) other than just the castle nut. My friend buying it, however, is just in a hurry to get an AR

Could have been a nut that just slipped through without being notched.Hell you could do it with a cutting wheel from a dremel. I dunno. If you look at the parts sectionof their catalog, you'll find that the listing for that nut is noted that it comes w/o notches??? That's thr reason I didn't include one on my last parts order from them |
