Think I may want to use one of these on a new build. Cannot find any information on install method or how it attaches to upper. Does it come with its own barrel nut? How is it put on? Strap wrench? Any reviews? Thanks.

The aluminum ones come with their own aluminum barrel nut which can be assembled with the standard AR barrel nut wrench. The free float tube then gets screwed on separately which can be tightened hand tight without a strap wrench. Its easy to install and one of my farorite .

I have installed a few. They are a good rugged design and fairly light. The problem with them however is the vents will more than likely not line up strait where you want them. The tube can be machined a little at a time so the vents will clock right. If you don't care how the vents clock, then its no problem.

the Remington 597 VTR uses the same tube and barrel nut. I took my rifle length tube and installed it onto my friend's VTR, but it lined up all f'ed up. I used 220 grit sandpaper and a 1" thick glass plate to slowly remove material on the threaded end of the tube until it lined up perfectly.

as stated earlier, regular barrel nut wrench and hand tightening works. DPMS uses blue Loctite from the factory for the nut to tube threads. same old aeroshell 33ms grease on the nut to receiver.
