Here goes nuttin': I have a GII Hunter... shortened barrel to 18" and threaded with an AAC Breakout.
I can get no better than 2+MOA with 178 AMAX, and just at 2MOA with 168 Hornaday Match or 165 gr Sierra BT.... with either Varget or XBR 8208 at different loads (42-43 gr. By the way, 43 gr of 8208 with the 178's is WAY too hot, but is fine with 168's) Hornaday 150 FMJ does about 1.5 MOA with the same loads. My son has the same rifle and it likewise won't shoot 178 AMAX worth beans... but his does fine with 168 SMKs and 125 gr Speer TNT's.... 1MOA or less. Has anyone else experienced the same thing with the heavier bullets in the GII Hunters? They do have a 10" twist before anyone asks... I've measured it. Any pet loads for this would be appreciated as well. |

I have the recon. Though I have not shot it much, it appears to do just fine. The day I sighted it in, I would say an inch group.
Shot several deer with it out to 240 yards and hit where I wanted. I was using my pet load for my AR10's which is 43.5 varget topped with 180 grain CT silver ballistic tips. I don't like to shoot paper much but was thinking of cleaning it and running a few more on paper. You might check the crown job on the barrel, since it was shorted. Don't know who did it for you but that is the first thing I would check. |

I have a G2 Hunter 20" so I'll share my .02 with you.
1) At first I got unacceptable accuracy with factory ammo including Winchester, Remington and ZQ1. 2) The rifle is rough on brass amd the 2-stage trigger is heavy at 6 lbs. 3) I rolled some of my own with 148 gr bullets and the accuracy improved but I was still above 2" MOA. 4) I went with 168 SMK and Hornady 175 and was getting around .75" - 1" MOA. 5) Now I'm using 42 gr of IMR4064 with a 168 gr SMK and get around .5" - .75" MOA. The rifle is extremely rough on brass when I use anything at or above 43 grains of powder and that's not a hot charge. I had a damaged firing pin and I suspect it was from ruptured primers. I just received the replacement yesterday. I have 2 other loads to test but I suspect the IMR4064 will be the best. |

How many groups? Prone? Benchrest? Bags? Distance? Are the numbers you're quoting the best groups, or the average? I'm not trying to beat you up or split hairs, I honestly want to know how your rifle is performing. |

Those are average groups, although I have put down one 1/2" group and several 3/4" groups. I think a better trigger will help me and rifle do better. |

G2 hunter here, my factory trigger is great. Viper 3x9 scope, only factory ammo, 5 shot groups from a rest. American Eagle 150g just over 2 inch groups. Fusion MSR 150g right at 2 inch groups. Barnes 150g TSX right at 1 inch, rifle loves this ammo and has shot it under 1 moa. (also took a deer this year, with impressive results)
Federal GMM 168g just over 1 inch groups. I like this rifle enough that I think I'm going to buy an recon to run a suppressor on. |

Interesting. I was very interested in picking one of these up in the near future, but Im not excited with these reports. Especially since it apparently uses a proprietary barrel.
I would probably go with the recon as its light weight, and after getting a nice rail, it would be a great midrange blaster. Hopefully more support for the G2 will be coming. Although just saw a youtube video of Remington defenses version, might have to pick one of those premium models up instead. I do believe the new smaller lighter receivers are a game changer. That being said, for precision gas guns in large calibers like .308, I don't mind a little extra weight to take recoil. |

Stock G2 Hunter with Nikon monarch 3x9... 5 shot groups
All reloads 150 Hornady under any powder charge 2 moa 165 grain Sierra Gamekings under IMR 4895 in Winchester brass 1/2 moa 175 SMK under Reloader 15 .5-.75 moa Accuracy has gotten better with round count. Now approximately 400, but I could just be shooting the rifle better now. Never tried any factory ammo, killed two deer with the Gamekings last season. |
| A bit disconcerting, with all the talk of the GII being the best new .308 AR, I never expected less than excellent accuracy. The good news (in a sad sort of way) is I can't afford one anyway but if I had the money to buy a .308 AR, I'd rather have a heavier rifle that's very accurate than a lighter rifle with just decent accuracy. |

So what, like 5 people out of thousands say they can't get 1MOA with every load tried and the rifles accuracy is questionable?
If I were a betting man, I could probably quickly find various manufacturers spec'ing a SPECIFIC load, guaranteeing some sort of accuracy out of their gun, with that ammo only. I'm also quite certain I can find numerous posts on this very site that say things like "DPMS makes good barrels", etc. Since every round and every gun made varies to some degree, I can't imagine why there would be an expectation of 1MOA or less out of a mid price-range semi-auto, with every ammo tried. Not to mention how many guns are modified before they are even tested, let alone the skill of the shooter, conditions, etc. Some may take offense because their results were less than expected, but this is a mass manufactured item, and the internet. The gun will shoot what it does, with you behind the trigger, with the ammo you select. Any firearm you pick up could shoot like garbage, unless there is an accuracy guarantee you are taking that risk. |

The big guns are completely unforgiving of poor technique. |
My G2 Hunter shoots consistent 3/4" groups with Fed Gold Match 168. Various 150 gr softpoint factory run 1-2" while the expensive Hornady Superformance 165 runs 3" with disturbing signs of excessive pressure.
The purpose of getting a G2 Hunter was not to sit on the bench but to carry it. I'm super pleased with it and impressed how smooth it feels while shooting. Can't wait for "global warming" to arrive and wring out handloads in it. |
