I acquired a DPMS upper last year that has the standard military front sight.  I have tried 3 different types of rear sights - a removable carry handle (DPMS), a Matech Mil-Spec Back up Iron Sight, and a Buis Rear Sight by SNIPER.  All three sights would not adjust far enough to the left to be able to sight in the upper.  I suspect the front sight was improperly installed at the factory, as I have not touched it.  I would just send it back to the factory.  But, I have decided to have a gunsmith replace the front sight with a rail height gas block, which may void the warranty.  So, what's your opinion??  Send the upper back to DPMS (shipping/insurance expense), or, just get the front gas block replaced and let the gunsmith fix the problem???

Whats gonna cost more, the 20 bucks to ship it to DPMS who will most likely fix it for free or the gas block and gunsmith fee?

Thanks for the response. Let me ask the question in a different way.  Since I'm going to replace the front sight anyway, is it worth the time and small expense to send the upper back to DPMS on the chance that the problem is something else and not the front sight installation?  I mean, what else could be the problem?

If I was going to replace the front sight, personally it surely would not to be with a railed gas block.  I absolutely hate them.

In my opinion, you might as well spend a few extra dollars and replace with a low profile gas block and free float rail system over that.

Of course, that's me.

Either that or send it to DPMS and let them fix it for free.  Basically I would not spend money to get a railed gas block.  I also happen to like longer rails.  Just a preference I suppose.

Railed gas blocks look for trouble IMHO

Yup. Had trouble with 2 of them.

Sounds like OP's front sight is canted over.

If you were to replace the FSB at all, get a decent free float rail around $170 or so and then a lo-profile gas block for around $40. Provided you have a couple of tools and basic mechanical aptitude, you should have no problem installing them.

Then, get a good flip up front sight if you still want irons at that point. I'd say EOtech or Aimpoint at this point though.
