| Just purchased a DPMS flat top .308. I will be mounting a scope with a 44mm bell objective, and was wondering what height rings I will need. Never mounted a scope on a flat top before, but I'm guessing I'll need High rings.....also, saw a one piece mount (similar to a riser) with built in rings from "Model 1 Sales" advertised in shotguns news....this looks cool, but am wondering about functionality, chhek weld, etc....thanks for any input. |

I just mounted my Millet TRS-1 in one of the Model 1 one piece mounts on my LR308, and it works fine for me so far. Haven't shot it yet, but i've been finger bagninf the hell outta my new rifle, and the dogs want to know why i have been laying spread out on the living room floor with the rifle......they just stare at me. |
the elevated rail adds .35". so at least .95" from rail to center of scope would put above 1.3", irons height. so rings of at least .45" for 1" and .35" for 30mm. 1.4-1.5" above rail works for most people. |

I have a Burris XTR312 on my LR308B and ended up using a Larue SPR-S mount for it. I cannot recommend that mount enough. It's expensive, but you get what you pay for. I had used Larue and Burris rings before and while both were also good, the one piece mount kicks complete ass. Make sure you clean the barrel and chamber before you go to break it in/shoot it the first time. Mine was filthy dirty from the factory and took forever to get clean. |
| its all about what works for you. a larue mount might work for you but not me. I have 3 sets of rings, low, med. and high. whenever I mount a new scope to any gun I try them all and see whats the most comfortable. I even let friends borrow them. They were chep like 8 bucks a set. That way I dont spend alot of money on a good set of rings that dont work for me. I mounted extra high see thru mounts on a custom 10/22 becouse it felt the best. looks cool as hell but odd (no iron sights) |
