Looking at getting one from a local gun shop, new for $949. Anyone have much experience with this model? Any idea of what type of accuracy to expect out of 16in barrel? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I've never shot mine beyond 100yds, so I'll leave the accuracy comments to the long-range/benchrest hounds.

All I can say is that I absolutely love mine –– I have many .308s and it is hands-down my favorite of the bunch.

Yes I think this is an excellent price
I have an  AP4 LR 308 and this rifle is awsome !!!!!
By far a very accurate  and easy handling 308 carbine. I bought mine when the prices
were a lot higher, get them while you can.
One downside is what kind of ammo are you using ?? comercial 308 loads are fine
so is some brands of surplus. If you have a lot of surplus to run through an  FAL may be
what you want. This effect has not been seen in all AP4's in 308 out there but it has
happened. This is caused by the very tight chamber, which contributes to excellent
accuracy.

Have any of you used the cproducts mags? Mag quality, availability, and price is always a concern for me when considering a new rifle platform.

Yes, the DPMS comes with a Crappy trigger, I put a RRA NM two stage in mine $99 and a perfect break with the safety of two stage.

As far as mags, I've never had any issues with the DPMS mags, and all of mine will hold 20 rounds. Call 44mag.com, and you can get the DPMS ones cheap. I've also never had issues with surplus ammo of any kind, but I try to stay away from the ones listed in the back of the manual. the only problems I ever had were due to hand loads that were loaded with Lee dies, and insufficient lubrication early on. I switched to RCBS small base dies to cure the hand loading problem, and to Disotech XFR for the lube. I've had zero failures since switching to the XFR. You can literally lube it up with this stuff and go shoot several hundred rounds and the gun will still be wet and well lubed. Slicker than owl shit.

Thanks for all the info everyone. It's great to find out first hand experience from owners of a weapon as opposed to reading articles on them. Looks like a may have to puchase one after the holidays are over with.

That's a good price I paid 1020 for mine before Obamanation. I shoot my reloads, 150 grain SST Hornaday and get just over 1 inch groups. I did change the trigger to a Timney along with the stock. I love the gun plus its a lot lighter than my LR SASS

What type stock did you go to? I was wondering if an LMT SOPMOD would work?

The DPMS 308's use a standard AR buffer tube.  It will be a commercial tube diameter but any aftermarket stocks that fit that tube will work.  If you want to use a SOPMOD you would have to put a mil-spec tube on it.  It would take a standard AR mil-spec buffer tube, nothing special.  DPMS uses a shorter buffer to allow the use of standard AR tubes.

I love my AP4 (and my SASS).  I chose DPMS when I decided to get into the 308 AR market and I've never looked back.  Both guns function very well and are very accurate.  I just got 20 of the new Pmags for them too!

I upgraded to the JP trigger when I ordered my AP4 so I can't speak to the stock trigger but all accounts seem to say that the trigger is a necessary upgrade.

I'm going to look at this one tomorrow. This will be my first .308 AR-15 platform rifle. I have 2 Springfield M-1A's.  Bill T.

The C-products mags work fine, except when used as a mono pod.

Caused jams for me that the DMPS mags didn't do.

I have and Ap4 and love it.

As far as mags, there was a bad run of DPMS mags.  If they jam often, you can get them replaced as the correctly manufactured ones rarely jam.

Right now, I have my loaded up with:

Tango Down QD Foregrip
Eotech 516 HS
Magpul MS2 Sling
Magpul MIAD (You do lose some of the functionality of this, since its designed for a smaller platform)

The 20 round P-Mag is downright sexy.

I will upgrade mine to with a RRA trigger and new stock in the future.  They fixed the mag issue for me right away, so that shouldn't dissuade you.

The only con I see is they are a little picky on ammo and the trigger does have a long pull.
