For those interested, I just received a DPMS Lo-Pro .22LR upper.  I just wanted a relatively inexpensive .22LR upper for plinking and for the kid, and I think this one should fit the bill.

Comes in at just a hair over 30" OAL with the shorty ACE stock (30.5" OAL with the 1/2" pad installed as pictured).  Weighs in at about 7.5 lbs without a mag (6 of it is the upper and sight).  Sight is a Tasco ProPoint Red/Green dot.

The mag that came with the upper had a small roll pin on the side and had a small rod installed at the bottom to limit it to 10 rounds.  With the rod removed, it holds 11 and seems to feed all rounds without problem.  A separate mag that I ordered from Brownells was not pinned, did not have the rod at the bottom, and holds 11 rounds.  I hope 11 rounds isn't DPMS's idea of Hi-Caps.  The mag insert inside is easily removable once you open the side cover of the mag.  It sure seems like it would be easy enough to tool up and make a longer mag insert that could hold 20-30+ rounds.  It looks to be just stamped steel that is parkerized.

The upper is mounted on a forged DPMS lower with DPMS LPK.  I did notice the mag catch notch on the DPMS mags is cut rather generous.  If you push up on the mags at all and try to cycle the bolt, the bolt gets hung up on the back of the mag feed lips/ejector.  We'll have to see how this works when I get a chance to actually fire it.

And if you injure a foot or leg while you're out in the field, you can use the thing for a crutch!

I decided to go with a 1.5-4.5x scope from Cabela's.  I was able to easily get under .5" groups at 25 yards off of a improvised sand bag rest this weekend.  I was a little sloppy at 50 yards with the 8lb.+ GI trigger, but still managed to keep the groups at about 1.5".

Went through a whole box of Dynapoints from Wal-Mart and only had 1 problem out of 500 rounds - one failure to fire.  Put the round back in the next mag and it fired.  Other than that, it was completely trouble free.  Well, except for constantly having to load those damn 10 round mags.
