I was wondering if there was a way to tell whether a lower was cast or forged.  The DPMS is the one in question.
Thanks

Olympic Arms has a FAQ on their website that explains.  I assume the information would be the same for any brand as far as cast vs. forged.

Well I was gonna have my local dealer order me a lower assembly from RRA but when I walked into his shop...he had this DPMS sitting in a corner that he had just received in for someone else (never paid) so I looked at it...looked too smooth for being cast, so I went ahead and got it.  Then after I started thinking about it I thought well I better ask.
Thanks guys...It is forged...much to my relief.

To tell the DPMS cast from forged, if the lettering and logo is raised (except for the serial number, which is stamped) then the receiver is cast.

This is a cast receiver very similar to DPMS's cast receiver:

If the lettering and logo is engraved or stamped in, it is forged.

Forged DPMS lowers will have a panther head logo and an F in the serial number.  Cast lowers will simply say DPMS.
