I recently purchased a DPMS (complete) w/flat top lightly used from a local fun shop. It came with bolt on front and rear sights for the rifle. The rear stays firmly attached adjusts well etc. The front ones are a severe pain... They come loose and NO MATTER how much adjustment is made will not zero properly. I have been in the military for over 13 years, just recently got into purchasing firearms for my own use. My friend and I went out to zero the DPMS and a STAG. The STAG zero'd perfectly after putting about 15 rounds down range. The DPMS took 60 rounds and we were still firing 3.5 inches to high. I adjusted the front bolt on iron sight until it couldn't go any higher... Going any higher it would actually come out of the bolt on. I am wondering why this is happening?

The front sight is located over the gas block, would a rail riser solve the zeroing issue? What can I do? I plan on putting optics on this rifle, but in the event that for some reason the optics fail. I want to have back up sights. Should I replace the handguards w/rails so I can put on a set of MAGPUL MBUS? And if so whats a decent set to purchase? Any and all input is appreciated, thank you. I posted this earlier in AR15 discussion, didn't get alot of feedback.  So posting here.

More than likely you have a front sight that was made for handguards on the gas block. If you notice the gas block is lower than the top rail so they make specific sights to go on the gas block. While if you had a railed forend the mounting position would be even with the top rail so the sight would be lower than one on a gas block.

That's probably it.

Maybe this? http://www.dpmsinc.com/store/products/?prod=1360  You should be able to find it cheaper somewhere else

I have decided on getting a Yankee Hill flip front sight.  And a rear Magpul MBU flip sight.  Thanks for the input and helping me figure out what I needed.  It was very frustrating when I first took it out thinking it was good to go and just needed zeroing.  Appreciate it.

This is just my opinion, but I would get a yankee hill Rear and a magpul front. If your gonna get one polymer and one aluminum, get the rear in aluminum. Just my opinion nothing wrong with the MBUS.

Sorry I forgot you got a gas tube rail!
