So I was looking at picture of the REPR and was wondering what the holes in the upper receiver are for?  I can assume but was wondering if anyone knows.  Here's a link to a picture where you can clearly see them, unless I'm completely wrong and they are just marks the shooter made.  I don't remember seeing them but I wasn't really looking for them, anyway, thanks

Looks like gas relieving ports .

on the early version of the REPR they had what they called the "gas buster" system. it was supposed to vent excess
gases out the side of the receiver when shooting suppressed to prevent the BCG from getting as dirty as fast.
it never had as much effect as they would have liked and I believe the idea has been dropped from current ones.

Is the REPR (DPMS) available?  I have not seen any recent reviews.

Thats what I was assuming they were intended to do thanks.  They are available but I agree on the lack of reviews out there, maybe thats a good thing?

I am very excited this thread came up.  I'm hoping someone can chime in and give some input.  I have had a hard on for this rifle since I saw it and am in the process of making it my first .308 AR.....Unless someone has good reason for me not to

J75player has one and he posted a picture of his on my build page for inspiration.  He seems real happy with it hopefully he will chime in here.  It is Chambered in .260 Rem though.

yup, mine is in .260 rem with a custom bbl from Kreiger on it. I know they have it listed for sale(has been for several years) but I don't know if they are actually selling any to the public yet.
as far as I know the only ppl with DPMS REPR's in hand are a couple of magazine reviewers, 3-4 were given out at charity events and one or two employees that built them for themselves(like me).
all of them were prototype phase guns. but like I said, I havnt heard of any that have been sold to the general public yet.

mine just cuz

Yeah that's a sexy rifle.  *drool*

I'm going to start a magazine publishing company now.

I'm glad you like yours.  I definitely have a hard on for the .308 though.  I have seen 4 or 5 on gunbroker but have to hold back for now.  How I wish I worked for a firearms manufacturer......

It will be mine.....oh yes, it will be mine

My boss at work just got one, been on order for maybe a couple of years.  I've also seen them on gunbroker.  Maybe they've started trickling out.

So back to second guessing myself and my pick on .308 rifle...... J75Player:

What can you offer me for input on a decision between the DPMS REPR and the SASS.  There's a pretty significant cost difference between the two and I am starting to think that the SASS might be a better route to save cash that I can spend on glass.  I do note that the SASS comes with BUIS where as the REPR does not.  I also believe the REPR has a rifle length gas system as opposed to the SASS having a midlength...am I wrong on that?  What would you recommend between the 2 rifles?  Is there a major accuracy difference between them?  Thank in advance

I was in the same boat as you a couple of weeks ago, trying to decide between the SASS and REPR.  I found a lot of reviews on the SASS (because there's more of them out there) and hardly anything on the REPR.  I decided on the SASS ( $1699 + $20 shipping on Gunbroker), and put the money towards some glass.  The only difference I could find between the two are that the REPR has the vent holes, has the rifle length gas system, and weighs about two pounds less.  But the SASS should be just as accurate for $500 less, and I like my rifles black, not tan.

[#13]
Sounds pretty much like my thought process......I did like the idea of a Tan rifle, though, since I don't have any but I guess I might just stay with the trend.  I wanted to stay away from a "tacticool" .308 but I wanted the rifle semi auto & some what accurate but with the M1A so difficult to scope, I'll have to get another AR style rifle.  I think you have hit the nail on the head and I might be following in your footsteps.

The barrel profiles are one of the main weight differences, and a lighter/shorter rail for the REPR.

the REPR SHOULD be generaly more accurate then the SASS because it is using a higher quality bbl.
when i left they were still deciding who was going to produce the bbl for the REPR, they were down to Kreiger and another MFG(dont recall who but a higher end maker)
but i'v seen SASS rifles turn in anywhere from 1 MOA to just under .5MOA
not many REPRs out there so i couldnt tell your FOR SURE that it will be more accurate, but i expect it will turn in better groups then the avg SASS

other then that , yup the REPR is lighter and a bit handier when shooting off hand.  rifle lenght system instead of mid lenght on the SASS.
the HG on the REPR is the same lenght as the SASS but skelitonized.
oh, and the REPR can be ordered in black too

if you want to be on the move more with your rifle, the REPR is prolly the better pick.  if you will be useing it mostly from a static position the SASS might serve you better.
but with a good sling the SASS can be carried in the deer field just fine, it'll just be a little slower to swing off hand.

but the choice is up to you, thier both great guns and i think you would be very happy with either

Awesome.  Thanks man.  Some already thought of and some new, good, information.  I appreciate it.  I believe for the savings I may go the SASS route.  It will mostly be a range gun so the weight will be a benefit to shoot from prone or seated.  Here in the Buckeye state, we can't hunt with rifles.  Thanks again, and I will post an update when I get my rifle.  Trying to get the wife to get it as a birthday gift

Alright....one more question.  Why would DPMS decide against putting BUIS on the REPR like they did on the SASS?

haha, no idea, prolly just a bean counter thing.
or maybe it wasnt something that was specified in what the mill was looking for in a REPR?

Well gents...... My wife just put the dpms repr on lay away for my birthday.  I'll have to wait a couple months but at least i know it's coming.  I was going to get the sass but the one i was looking at sold and the rest were priced only a couple hundred shy of the repr, so we went for it.  Today is a good day

I saw a REPR at Keene's Depot in Bardstown, KY last week.  http://www.kygunco.com/I

I have a Mark 12 LR308 and have been very pleased with it.

Did you get a chance to fondle it?  If so, how did it feel?  I have not held a SASS but have held one of the LR308's and I think the lighter weight is going to be appreciated.  If it is anything like my DPMS AP4 in 5.56....It'll be an outstanding gun.  Now it may be an unfair comparison because our rifles have been used and abused but my AP4 shoots just as good if not better than our issue M4's.  With my Aimpoint M3 @ 100yds.....1.5" is very doable.

Like J75player has said....Many hate DPMS due to their price, nothing else.  Then again, maybe I got lucky or some got unlucky.  Either way, I would depend upon my personal DPMS AR to save my life just as I would my issued weapon in the AOR.  I have seen a lot of people say that LWRC REPR is the only rifle worth the REPR name.  But the only difference I see is a side charger and piston system.....and $1000.  Even the KAC M110 is an impingement system for accuracy reasons.  I'm not one to jump on board a train just because 5 urban commando's said it was cool.  I'll stick to what is proven in a real environment, not in a car to be pointed at people because someone has a knife.

Anyway, this rifle can't come soon enough.

I did not check it out.  It's a good looking rifle, but I think they should have used something nicer than the YHM forend.  I like the barrel profile, but if I was considering a $2K+ .308, I'd have to go w/ the FN SCAR-H.

A SCAR has definitely been glistening in my eyes for awhile now but a battle rifle isn't exactly what I'm looking for.  I wanted a semi-auto .308 set up for distance, that I could put some glass on.  M1A was my original plan but all the time and money spent on the right scope mount and cheek rest (if not even a new stock and bedding) I changed course.  So because of all the hassle, I did what I didn't want to do and got another black rifle, or tan rifle in this case.  But then back to the topic of a better rifle for $2K .....I would love a Larue, LWRC, POF etc.... but they would easily cost another $1K and then there goes my Mark 4 out the window.  So DPMS it was and here I am.  I need to get a Garand or M1A next to avoid being too much of an urban commando.  I joined the military to play with those toys, not so I could buy them and keep them at home.  So yea....anyway....I'm pretty stoked about this rifle.  I feel like Ricky Bobby the first time he drives the Dennit Racing car......
