whats wrong with the DPMS SASS vs. KAC and others?  Seems to me for half the cost it would be a good deal.  I guess i"m asking what is so much better about the others?

Reliability, durability, r&d and quality control

It's like comparing a Corvette to a Lambourghini (im sure i misspelled that);  they may have the same 0-60 time, but they aren't even close overall.

so if you guys wanted a semi auto mid to long range rifle and their was no way you could afford KAC , is it worth buying the SASS instead.  im not going to be using this to depend my life on, and i dont consider 2 grand an inexpensive rifle so all input is welcome.

do they have 18 inch barrels out yet for the MWS? I really like the feel of the 18 incher

I know you can get them.  I don't think they come with the gun.  A buddy of mine has an 18 inch barrel in his.

I love my SASS John. It shoots sub moa as guaranteed by DPMS (when I'm using the Caldwell Lead Sled). But I will say that I only shoot good stuff and it does seem to prefer the heavier grain bullets. But I have never yet had any king of FTF, FTE or F of ANY kind as of yet. It came from the factory looking and operating perfectly. I would trust my life with it... wtf that even means. I guess I have zero doubts that if I point it at somebody and pull the trigger then it will go BOOM and put a .30 cal hole in them right where the illuminated dot was aimed. But that's just my experience.

I have had a DPMS .308 SASS since early 2007.  It is a fantastic, but heavy rifle.  It functions perfectly and is more accurate than I am.  When it come to weight, it is a pig.  Sure I can carry it in the woods all day, but I would prefer something lighter.  With the thick barrel, it is front-end heavy.  Will I sell it any time soon?  Hell no.

Im sure it is a great rifle, I (and many others on here) just choose to buy top-notch gear

I plan on doing a MK12 build with a BCM upper, and It will cost me 2x what the DPMS would have, and I am OK with that

So does anyone here that has a dpms sass feel that it won't do the job. I understand that the other manufacturer's may put together a "better rifle" but i don't see how it would effect anyone not in the .mil     I have not got a straight answer from anyone that proves that their rifle is better in any way.  If i'm not mistaken dpms was in the running for the M110 slot. That would make me feel that its a pretty decent rifle.

Are we not talking about the 30cal SASS here?

How does a BCM mk12 upper (a great upper by the way, I've owned one myself) relate to the discussion?

Accurized AR platform suitable for the "outside of what the aimpoint was meant for" range

I'm currently debating the need to go to a 30 caliber AR platform, as I already currently already have an SPR build done.
I'm starting to think that the SPR I have fills the bench gun need, long range zombie/SHTF/TEOWAWKI slot, and does so at less cost and weight than the 30 caliber counter part. Cheaper to practice with and easier to shoot (for when I'll begin bringing novices to the range at some point) - as well as being able to buy one single caliber that will also work with my HD setup.

It is technically something of a sidetrack, but the discussion is helpful!

Good question for the OP....5.56 or 7.62?  The SASS competition (XM110), which KAC won, was for a 7.62.  Remington/DPMS came in second over Armalite and another brand, if I recall correctly.  Anyway.....DPMA also offers a mini-SASS in 5.56.  So, I'm confused.  Which is the OP speaking of?

Op, i would buy the damn sass if thats what you want. Theres alot of people on here that dont believe in anything other than the most expensive shit they can get their hands on. That doesnt mean that there is anything at all wrong with a "lesser brand" just because theres higher priced stuff out there. Besides 95% of the accuracy is up to you anyhow...regardless of the rifle.

I've owned two DPMS SASS's. They both shot very well. A little on the heavy side. But other then that, I liked them.

I'm referring to the 7.62, sorry i should have made that more clear.  I have decided to go with the DPMS.  I have not heard any negative comments about it really.  I know it's heavy, but that is to be expected.  I'm interested in seeing some groups from someone that actually owns one.  Thankyou to all that have given me useful information

Someone else's groups posted on an internet forum should be the last thing that influences your decision.  Yes, some of us, when given the opportunity and with the means, will buy the top of the line guns and gear, but that rifle will most likely be more accurate than you are.

It sounds like you've pretty much made your mind up and are looking for validation.  Just buy the damn thing.

I'm on my way to get it today! I can't wait!  i will be changing the grip and putting a vortex flash hider on it.  Also putting a bushnell elite tactical 3x12x44 mil/mil scope on it.

I've shot head to head My Remington R25 with a lapped factory barrel and Giselle DMR trigger vs. a KAC 25 and switched back and forth with the KAC owner... He was impressed with my particular rifle..

Not really a SASS but it'll get the job done.
