I'mlooking into buying DPMS SASS .308, went to a local shop here and priced w/o optics @ $1900, do you guys who have been around awhile think this is a competive price for the rifle?

That would be about average, at least around here.

If you look around the net a little bit, you could probably find one a little cheaper.

Check out Gunbroker.  I'd say 1750 to 1850 would be pretty well in line.  $1900 seems a little steep.  I got mine about three weeks ago for $1789.00 shipped.  I could find it for less but not from any place that had one on hand.  I had it in hand three days after paying... not too bad for an internet deal.

Really?  I think you can blow  $1-2k on optics easy.  Dont get a kickass rifle and put sub-par optics on it.

It's a nice rifle.  I have a Leupold VX-III on mine but that will be replaced by a USO later on down the road.

I have had my sass for a few months and love it. as i have seen posted before mine does not like black hills 175gr match (2 inch groups at 100 yards) but federal gmm 168gr will group .5 to 3/4 inch. i put a 6.5-20 mk4 ill tmr on it and i am very pleased with it. I have owned an armalite ar-10t before and i like the dpms sass better.I bought mine on gun broker i paid $1715 plus $35 shipping and a $25 dollar transfer fee at my local ffl.

Check out this site Whittakers.  It probably doesn't show on his web-site.  But he has a bunch of .308 uppers in his store.  Most likely, cheaper then you will find anywhere.

01deuce,

what do you like better about the DPMS vs the AR-10?  I'm still trying to decide which to get.

Thanks,

For 1900 dollars I would have GAP build a gun. For the extra money you get a railed tube, JP trigger, and a CM barrel. At least you could get the basic DPMS, buy a better barrel and decent trigger, save money and have a hell of a rifle.

1000 basic rifle

180 FF tube
180 trigger
PRS/or Vltor stock 200
400 barrel

sell old parts

YMMV

I saw th 18" CM barrel on this 2k SASS and thought WTF? At least they could have gotten a decent SS barrel.

I have a NIB DPMS SASS that I'm thinking of parting with. It comes with a Magpul PRS stock (installed by DPMS). I waited 6 months for the rifle and it has been in my safe, virtually untouched, since I received it. I'm thinking $1850 shipped. No pressure from this end. Go ahead and email/IM me if you're interested.

Well for starters i paid a total of $1775.00 so its not a 2k gun. i like the shorter barrel, its purpose to me is not a 1k gun 800 max is ok for this type of rifle. (before anyone bashes me saying that key words are TO ME) I had feed problems with my 10t, and buy the way mine (10t) was a cm barrel so if you bash dpms for that then do the same for armalite. if they are all ss barrels now so be it. I like the foward assist (maybe ill never need it but its there) i did a lot of research before i bought it (sass) and most people sure seem to like there DPMS 308's so i did not think i was giveing anything up compared to the armalite ( i have an open mind and was willing to try a different product) what i didnt know was that my sass will hold tighter groups than my 10t did (once again key word MY) that i found out after i bought it and shot it. i also like everything elese that comes with it compared to a 10t. some like to say its lower quality compared to a armalite i dont see it in fit, finish, function or any other catagory. If it ever blows up then i guess i was wrong. My 10t was a nice rifle I (AFTER NOW OWNING BOTH) prefer the SASS.

Changed my mind, decided to go with the DPMS LR-308B instead of the SASS, this will give the accuracy and money left over for optics and acces.like trigger upgrade ect.
