The main reason I would choose the SS receiver over aluminum is strength and weight. If you look at DCM type rifles, you see people doing everything to add weight, bull barrels, lead weights in the handguard, lead buttstock weights.
The heavier your rifle is, the harder it is to move around. So the heavy rifle isn't as "jumpy" as a light rifle. Therefore easier to swing over the target and place your shot. I forget the actual numbers but the SS receiver is significantly heavier than the aluminum receiver. The buttstock weight is about 3 lbs and I'm not sure how much the handguard weights are. Extra weight makes it more difficult to stray off your shot. Also makes the rifle kick like a .22 LR. |
