I just picked up a Sportacle. I plan on replacing the barrel, HG, buffer, gas block, and trigger.
BUT WHOA IS THAT SLICK SIDE UPPER UGLY AND WEIRD. The rail looks to be about a 1/4" higher than it should be for no reason. Its obvious this is an extrusion, but why the extra high upper rail? I would guess there is no way a free floating handguard will match this. I like SLR, but I wont be getting anything to line up on this. Are there any good keymod type tubes that have no top rail? |

The rail height on the upper is standard height the gas block rail is 1/4" low thats why it looks off. Also DPMS uses their glacier guard handguards which have a larger diameter than standard hand guards. The sportical was designed to be an optics only inexpensive AR rifle.
Why mot just build your own rifle by the time you get done replacing everything it would be cheaper to build. Might want to look for a new barrel too. The barrels on thos are 1/9 twist, no lining, and very light profile |

The barrels on thos are 1/9 twist, no lining, and very light profile I wanted to build my own. But I could not find Aero M5 upper/lowers anywhere. Every shop I talked to said stripped 308 stuff was non existent. So I just bought the Sportacle and may just start buying parts. If I find a regular DPMS upper (which is much more likely than finding Aero stuff or BOTH upper and lower from DPMS) then I'll start with new parts the sell the Sportacle upper. OOOPS. I did not realized there was both a 556 and 308 sportacle. I was looking for a 308. I have built close to a dozen 556/300/6.8 AR's. Just wanted a big bore before the election. |
