Anyone have one? I found one local for $650 and was wondering if it would be a good first AR, mostly for target shooting.

| They are a decent buy, the price is decent, honestly the forward assist and port cover are all not really needed unless you are runnin around in the jungle or the sandbox. For the range warrior or home defense they are fine guns, i also kinda like the slim line they have. |

No chrome lining, no port door, no brass deflector, no forward assist and no sights and DPMS has not always had a "Quality is Job One" reputation although they make some cool stuff and are nice guys. I would only be interested if that was all I could find or I just wanted a cheap AR for shits and giggles. It would also probably be an okay short range coyote gun. I think a first AR should at least have iron sights and should be reliable. Maybe this is all you can find right now. If you can find a standard 16" carbine I think you might enjoy it more than this strippo model. I agree that the small diameter barrel seems like a good idea. In the end it's your carbine and if it fits the bill for you then you should be happy. I think if you shoot quite a bit you'll not be that thrilled with it and want at least a different upper. If cost is a big factor keep in mind the expense of buying optics or a scope right off the bat. If you want something now and that's all that is around, well you can change it around later |

I bought one two weeks before the election for $688.00 here in Missouri. I have fired 300+ rounds through it and have had no problems. I bought it to use in 3 gun shoots. I put an EOTech 516.a65/1 Optic on it. You don't need the forward assist or dust cover. I took the $220.00 I saved by not having those on the rifle and put that money towards the EOTech. (The optic was $440.00.) I am very pleased with my Sportical! Only thing is that if I want to put flip up front and rear iron sights on incase of a malfunction with the optics, I will have to fork out another $200.00. I have heard of guys showing up at a shoot only to find out they have dead batteries in their optics with no back up! They didn't score very well by just throwing lead down range. Anyway, for $650.00, I would not pass that up.

Obviously at longer ranges you would want to get your flip ups up, but try it with an idpa target at under 10 yards and you'll see. |
