I'm starting to build a DPMS Recon .308 and want to use a geissele S3G which I already have. I am new to .308s and want to know if I should (A) Use a heavier on lighter buffer and (B). a better type BCG like a Harris Tactical and (C) does it even really matter.  Thoughts?    The rifle is NIB.

Maybe I don't understand your question correctly.

Why do you think the buffer has something to do with the trigger group?

I'm using a trigger from an AR15 and wonder if that and any particular weight buffer would have any impact on the round being able to ignite (trigger hammer)

The trigger can be used in the lower, but you sould def use a 308 buffer.  Pay attention to rifle length vs carbine length and get the correct 308 spring.

Like the last post said, you must use 308 specific buffer. There is 2 type (that I know): one for collapsible, and one for fixed stock.

Still the buffer has nothing to do with the trigger. Use wrong buffer will give you cycle or feed problems.

Your worry about the free float firing pin ignite the primer is not realistic...It still does NOT relate to your trigger from a AR15.

Thanks for pointing that out as I'm new to this.

The Carbine length .308buffer is shorter than the 5.56 Are you building of just buying the DPMS If just buying. Just put the GEISSELE trigger in it and shoot it.
If building I suggest reading as much as you can. There is really so standard on .308 parts. Like Mil. Spec. parts on a AR15,

If you do go with a Geissele choose the right trigger for your application. If you are looking for rapid follow,up shots the S3G is excellent, if you are wanting precision! It's  not the best - the high speed NM is.  You will not be disappointed with Geissele if you choose wisely - it is hard to find comparable quality.
