Am I correct in thinking this barrel is the same as a Shaw barrel? I am thinking about getting the stainless steel 24 inch 1x8 fluted in .233. Is this a good barrel for a kick around bench gun?

No, DPMS manufactures all of their barrels. There is a lot of DPMS hate around here but their barrels are good to go.

Not sure who makes their barrels but I have had good luck with them. I owned that exact barrel, just sold it. It's very heavy

I shoot this five shot group with that barrel at 50 yards using my reloads.

DPMS IS GTG!! So much eliteism it smells in here...just an hours ago I did a RIBZ on my A2 HBAR...couldn't be happier with it.
