Is the DPMS lightweight barrel the same as a the bushy lightweight. Is it a good and accurate barrel, besides less weight what does it have over other barrels? |
| The thin barrels will be a lot less consistant as the barrel heats up. They heat up quickly, but also cool fairly quickly. Im still trying to get numbers on how severe this effect is on another post. Chrome lined barrels last longer, are easier to clean, and require no break in. Chrome lined chambers last longer and have smoother and more reliable feeding and extraction. |

Modern industrial hard-chroming, as used by Colt, Bushmaster, FN, LMT, etc. will not noticably affect accuracy. Yes, you might lose perhaps .1 MOA, but it would be very difficult to tell, because that's well under the variation from barrel to barrel. A tenth of an MOA is utterly insignificant, especially with a lighter barrel that will lose accuracy when very hot. Note that FN's SPR (their version of the Remington PSS) uses M240 chrome-lined machinegun barrels, and is known for turning in .5 MOA groups. That's 1" at 200 yards. Obviously the chrome-lining didn't ruin the accuracy there. -Troy |
You're worried about accuracy when your shooting a pencil barreled carbine? As Troy indicated any decreas in accuracy due to the chrome lining is minimal - you certainly won't notice it when shooting (Unless you are a High Master and shooting from a bench). |
