I was wondering what ya'll think of the slick side sportical upper receiver. I like the look and if one was only bench shooting or just getting into black rifle this maybe a good choice. the simplicity of no forward assist or ejection port cover makes it a no frills rifle. I've been looking at every upper i can find for my build and this is not likely one of my choices i was just courious. Please don't go all brand loyalist just go off the look and function of it. So let me know thanks

It is extruded, which is a weaker method of manufacturing. In addition, it is fairly heavy. They had to make it thicker to compensate for the weaker material. There are better choices IMHO.

I didn't know that i always thought it would be lighter.

We increased the wall thickness due to the extrusion process, as a result it is stronger than an A3 forged receiver.

Customers have reported increased accuracy with this receiver due to the added wall thickness and rigidly.

I've used them on the two bufferless pistols I've built for low-profile and added stock reasons, since I make some significant modifications for my gas/recoil system...

Got any pics of those bufferless pistols? sound interesting

Green is 5.56, Tan is 6.8, and not done yet, no recent pictures...

I'll have some SBR folding/collapsing stock action on there soon

Those are freaking sweet hows the recoil going to be on that 6.8

With the delrin+rubber bumper I put in the buffer hole plug, probably not that bad.  The 5.56 is soft as a marshmallow .

One of the lowers will have a folding (ACE with custom buffer plug) or retractable (Nordic) stock soon, when I get on the ball and get some Form1's out...

I figured without the buffer it would be more jarring but that must be a fun pistol

Less weight because of the lack of buffer, but it's a carbine gas port on 10" and 11" barrels and the weight removed from the carrier is mostly recovered in the weight of the extended 3/8" diameter gas key that also acts as an action spring guide under the handguard.

So yes it's got less total dynamic mass, but it's not overgassed and has a soft bumper to absorb the impulse, so it all balances out pretty well.

Sooner or later I'll get a video up of me shooting the 5.56 pistol, haven't gotten around to taking one.

IIRC the top rail is slightly higher than a standard A3 upper, so won't match perfectly with top of railed forearms.  the ones I have seen were just fine and the rigs were accurate, i definitely wouldn't say it was a weak part.  I have never even seen a picture of a broken one, unlike cast Oly uppers and various carbon fiber.

Oh and if you plan to install a Troy Extreme or Vtac Extreme rail with this upper...you can't...without grinding off either the locator tab on the rail or ALOT of shaping on the upper in order to rotate the rail to fit because of the thicker walls.
