I was on Bravo Company's web site and saw that they are offering a Daniel Defense 16'" complete upper for $899. It includes front and rear sights, complete BCG, charging handle-everything. I was looking at other uppers they had BCM or LMT or others but they weren't complete. I was wondering if the group thought this would be a good buy.

It's a very good deal as long as you have a need for that rail or you don't mind how hideous it looks. BCM has so many new/exciting products they are offering right now

that I'm sure they're are trying to dump these, which don't sell well because of the unpopularity of the rail, to make room. As for quality/cost that Daniel Defense upper is an extremely good deal though

and the rail does have some benefits for those who would like to mount their light in front of the site post.

Why wouldn't just buy a complete DD rifle at AIM for a couple hundred dollars more?  Or a Spikes rifle for $950 with CHF barrel and their tungsten buffer.   If you are so inclined you can also get a complete piston rifle from Spikes or CMMG for about $1000.

I agree that rail may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, but it is definitely functional.

You can mount a light forward of the FSB, like you mentioned.

You can use a wider grip due to more room on the rail, which is great for those who use that thumb forward support arm stretched stance.

The price is awesome.  If I had some extra cash kicking around I'd jump on it.  But I don't

The complete DD rifle with that upper is $1549 at AIM.  The complete upper group at Bravo is $899.  If you buy the upper from Bravo that leaves you $650 to build or buy a lower.  Thus being an excellent deal.

Does anyone know if the DDM4 for $899 has a cold hammer forged barrel?

Other than the price the OP wasn't clear on if he specifically wanted the upper or just a DD product/rifle at the end of the day.  Oh well. Have fun shopping.

Definitely a great deal considering that means you have $600 to build a lower.

I just got an email from Rainier with a coupon code for, among other things, DD M4 for $1499 or DD XV $999.

If you don't like the DD M4 rail don't buy that gun. Just get an XV from Rainier and use the $250 DD black card to buy yourself an Omega or rail of your choice.

i have this upper group and i had asked DD about this and their response was that all the DDM4s being sold as upper groups are indeed cold hammer forged.

here is the email:

[In our early production models of the DDM4, the barrels were cut rifled.  All current product rifles have CHF barrels, and all of the uppers that we have released have had our hammer forged barrels as well.  If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I will add one thing about this upper...it is pretty damn heavy.

I personally dont mind its hideous looks. I really like mine. Others who do, and are mechanically inclinded can just change the FSB. Its nice because you can use a flip up sight, and basically have a 12.0 rail thats light, strong, and as low profile as any other DD lite rail or Larue 12 inch rail. These pics are a guys gun off M4carbine.net.
