What are my options for under $1k? Prefer SFP.

1-4x is enough magnification, but 1-5x or 1-6x is fine.

I have a SWFA SS 1-6X HD, but don't really like the FFP, the weight, and don't really need 6x.

The Trijicon Accupower BDC looks almost perfect because of the BDC and lightweight, but the photos I've seen make the reticle look too dim for fast 1x use.

I understand people's opinions about whether or not a day light bright reticle is necessary, and for my use, I would like day light bright.

Steiner 1-4x looks perfect, and I will probably wind up with one, but it's a little chubby at 22oz so I want to see if there are any other options to consider.

My use will be predominately on 1x, with the occasional shot at 4x on a 14.5" carbine. 90% of shots under 100 yards, with a few out to 300 yards.

The only ones that come to mind are:

Meopta ZD 1-4x (19 oz)
Burris XTRII 1-5x (21 oz)
and that Steiner.

I have the Accupower with the BDC reticle and while it is daylight bright. I don't feel like that's necessary because the thickness of the segmented circle is easily picked up. It is not aimpoint fast but I feel like it works well. Eye relief is good.

ETA: sorry for my comments on daylight brightness I didn't see that you had mentioned the bit about that. I am sure Crimson Tide will be along soon he's been talking a lot about his as well.

The circle reticle on the Accupower is daylight bright to me. The battery will not last long though on the highest settings.

Battery life doesn't concern me, I have a pile of them and they are cheap.

No prob, I appreciate your input. I really want to like the Accupower, it has all the features I want. I'm just not sure it's bright enough from the pics I've seen of the reticle.

I big selling point on the Steiner is that it's absurdly overbuilt and about impossible to kill.  The glass is also superior.

The Burris XTR II is a smoke'in deal for the money.

I have one of each... The Steiner is obviously better glass as it's a $1,900 scope that's only cheap because the 1-5's are out and the 1-4's are being blown out.

There's nothing wrong with the Burris and the 5X is nice sometimes.  The horseshoe-dot is super fast and the reticle is well thought out.  If the farthest you're shooting is 300 yards, I'd get the Steiner and toss it in a lightweight mount.

Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4x20mm with Firedot SPR reticle.  Dot can be made daylight bright.  SFP reticle. 30mm main tube.  Very solidly made, yet only about 13 ounces.  Only possible issue is it is not true 1x.  If 1.25x will do it is a very good value at about $550-$600. It is a MRAD tactical scope with MRAD subtensions in tve reticle, but they can easily be translated to holdover points bssed on the load you are shooting.

I've got one of these as well, and I honestly love the thing.

It's lightweight, great glass and the SPR reticle is practical and very flexible.  Yeah, it sucks that it's not a true 1X, but with a little practice it's pretty easy to deal with.

It's another excellent option.

I do like these, and mounted a 2-7x VXR for someone recently. They are absurdly light, and good cost also. I'll probably get one eventually, but want as close to 1x as I can get right now.

This is a pertinent discussion for me as well. I recently bought a brand new Micro T2 and DD mount only to find out my astigmatism is too bad for it. Now I'm looking for a LPV to replace the Aimpoint.  I looked at an Accupower, Accupoint,  Nightforce NXS, and a couple of others recently at a local store and am kind of lost. I once had an Accupoint TR24 with the red triangle on the post. I liked the scope but not the reticle. Now I'm not sure what to do.
