| Who other than Spikes tactical makes a dedicated .22 caliber upper? Nothing against the Spikes Tactical but I am looking for other options before I make a purchase. It will be used to help teach an 8 year old to shoot. |
| I have a Kurt's Kustom Firearm dedicated 22 lr Upper which I have been completely satisfied. Kurt's uppers use 1 in 16 inch twist barrels with a unique barrel extension which allows the use of any 22 lr conversion kit, ie Ciener, Colt/DPMS, M-261, Olympic RFA, or Air Force. There is a company called Viking selling 22 uppers on gunbroker but I'd say their quality is not as good as the other brands. If you want to spend a lot of money look at Accuracy speaks and Compass Lake Engineering. |

I built mine in pieces. I had a Ciener conversion and a few BDM mags, and used them in my 1:7 upper for a while. I had KKF make a dissipator style rimfire bbl (Kurt thinks it was his first - he cant remember making one before mine). I used an M1S 9mm upper and CH, a stripped RRA lower and some spare parts I had laying around, and I ordered the other $60 in parts from PK firearms (I think?) to finish it. Most of that $60 was the four position stock. A dedicated .22 that used a Spike's or M1S upper would have been cheaper, but I had to get my rifle in pieces, and I can still take the rimfire bolt out and put in my SHTF rifle if I want. Never shot it at paper, but I know that no tin can within 50 yards is safe. Havent shot it past 50 yards, dont have the room... |
| What I am looking for is a dedicated upper. I don't want a conversion kit like the Cieners. It is going on a CMMG lower that will eventually be passed on to him when he gets older. He is using a Cricket right now and does pretty well with it. My only real issue with the Spike's Tactical is that they are fancier than what I am looking for. I just want a basic 16" barrel with standard hand guards, fixed front sight and removable carry handle. |
That would be the Tactical Solutions. ![]() ETA: Polite Society, Inc. |

Spikes will build it however you want it. Mine are the way I ordered them. Tom is building a MK18 now. 11.5" barrel, fixed FSB and standard handguards. Give them a call for a price. Also, If you order a 16" M4 it will look like a real M$. 1.5" is inside the reciever so only 14.5" of barrel sticks out of the reciever. It's still a legal 16" but looks like an SBR! |

Of the others available, I would go with a Spikes dedicated upper. |
| I am very happy with my Spike's dedicated upper and the support is great in my experience. Spike's has a lifetime warranty so if you ever have any problems, they will take care of you. And yes, they can build it in the configuration that you want. You can also get a lot of answers on the industry section here under Spike's Tactical from either people who use their products or from the man himself (badazzar15) from Spike's. |
