I'm considering getting a CMMG AR-15 Sierra A3 Flat-Top Upper Assembly or possibly the M4 Upper. It will get a PA Micro Dot for an optic.  I'm not worried about BUIS since it will be a plinker.

I'm just not sure what mags I should get to go with it?

What about all the bolt hold open stuff?

Any help would be appreciated.

Get the Stainless Steel bolt and collar upgrade, you won't be sorry.
Buy the latest version CMMG Magazines in whatever round capacity
you prefer. With the latest followers and springs. You can stop there
and will be able to buy the BHOA and FA in the future should you want
full function just like a standard AR-15. You'll have the option. Any other
magazine choice will leave you at a dead end without any option for the
BHOA unless you get the latest mags. Should you decide not to go with
the Bolt Hold Open, CMMG and BDM both have magazines that will work
flawlessly...

Good Luck,
Dave S.

My batteries died on me on my red dot while thoroughly enjoying my AR22.  I always keeps spares in my range box.  Smurfs must of borrowed my spares.  Good thing I had BUIS!

What is the SS Bolt and Collar upgrade? What does it do and what does it attach to? I just posted a new thread re questions about building a new dedicated upper (LH'd) and clearly need to learn a few more things.
Thx,
B

Instead of a carbon steel bolt and collar you'd have a stainless steel bolt and collar.  A collar replaces the chamber adapter on the .22 conversion bolt.

Get all the upgrades and don't look back.  When I first got my CMMG dedicated .22lr upper, it had a few problems.  After some minor tweaking and adjustments, it runs all day with no problems.  Bolt holds back after the last round everytime.

I also run a PA red dot on mine, but I have the Magpul MBUS front and rear set on it as well.

Just waiting on the 25rd gen 2 mags.  Having to load 10 rounds at a time is such a b!tch!

Well, I ended up going with a Sig 522 instead.  I only have a couple hundred rounds through it so far, but like it a lot.  I need to get a bunch of mags and the PA Microdot still.
