[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Deflector

I just purchased my first AR (bushmaster A2 used) so sorry for the stupid question. Should I put a piece of tape or something over the spent brass deflector to protect the finnish or it something wrong. The AR's I see for sale here dont look touched.

Naw, the brass marks cleans off with a little Hoppes and a rag.
Besides, who cares? It's a shooter, not a safe queen.

I like the look of a worn deflector. Hell, I don't even try to wipe the brass marks off of my deflector anymore. Shoot the piss out of that rifle and don't worry about it.
