I was looking at a new AR and noticed it has a small chip off the finish on the ridge where the deflector meets the reciever.   Is this anything to worry about.  Im used to brass marks but this is an actual chip in the finish.

Thanks

Nothing to worry about.

If it's truly a new rifle, that could be a small manufacturing defect, caused by careless handling during the building process.  I wouldn't let it stop me from buying an otherwise good AR, but if there's another one like it on the shelf –– but without the chip –– I'd take the unmarked one.  No sense in handing over a lot of your good money for something that isn't exactly the way you want it.

rifle will not function and most likely would explode if you tried to fire it.

Could easily have happened when the upper was test fired at the factory.
