I'm looking at Del-Ton because they are the only people (that I know of) that make a kit for the kind of rifle I want.

Which is an A1 upper with a chrome lined 1/7 M4 profile barrel.

Does Del-Ton make quality kits or should I try somebody else?

Also, I plan on putting a old style CAR-15 stock on this build but I can't seem to find one that I am sure is a quality product.

I know Leapers makes one

I hear that Model 1 Sales sucks, but they have a CAR-15 style stock listed on their website, is it GTG or junk?

And, if the Model 1 Sales stock is junk does anyone know where I can buy a quality CAR-15 stock?

Thanks,

Del-ton kits are a quality product, but they are head over heels swamped in orders, be prepared to wait many months for your kit.

Essential Arms has the old school style vietnam era carbine buttstocks. They have them in plastic and in aluminum.

Yeah, they are pretty swamped. You could look into kits from J&T, M&A, and Model 1. I personally have an M&A kit and it is very good to go. Give them a call, and ask what they have in stock and you can pretty much build how you want. The uppers are LMT and the barrels are Wilson, the LPKs are high quality as well, LMT or RRA its hard to say. They also have the stock that you are looking for.

I guess I'll just buy two lowers and two separate kits.

One to have a "quick" AR while I wait for the one with all the features I want.

Now, the question is, which lower?

Just off the top of my head I'm thinking DPMS, Spikes, or Armalite.

Are any of them "better" than the other or are they all pretty much the same?

I'm leaning towards Armalite for no other reason other than the name sounds cool

Kind of a lame reason, but hey, it's my money, hehe.

In all seriousness though, which of those uppers do you recommend, or am I right thinking they are all pretty much equal?

Thanks.

Buy an essential arms lower.  They are high quality, and easy on the wallet.  Plus, you can have it in 1.5 - 2 weeks!!!

A complete or stripped lower?

I see they have kits less barrel, are they shipping a few weeks after order?

EE for your buttstock,

I've done some builds lately with Anvil Arms lowers and they turned out great.

Is there a difference in the quality of Del Ton parts kits (less) receiver and the same from M&A? Do Del Ton kits (less receiver) arrive with the barrel installed and headspaced as do M&A kits?

From their web site about their kits:

"Includes fully assembled, headspaced and test fired upper receiver, lower parts kit and buttstock."

Just for clarification, I am assuming you mean the  Del-Ton headspaces all their kits. No need for a response if this is correct. I will check their webspace a little closer, too.  Most of all, I thank you.

You might want to call them on that 1in7 barrel before you order.. Those had been back ordered forever like early november if I remember correctly. I've been waiting on a lightweight kit since mid november and I probably have at least a month to go. As for the quality I have a del-ton middy that shoots great, looks good and has no issues.  Mark

Yes, Deltons uppers in their kits are headspaced and test fired.  I received my middy kit about 2 weeks ago and the upper was obviously fired.

As far as lowers I have Rock River and Spikes.  Spikes prices are a little higher but your paying for cosmetics.  I've heard good things about Anvil Arms lowers but have no hands on experience with them.

Del-ton is currently 4 months behind on shipping.  Just talked to them this week.

Do they charge your credit card when you order or when they ship?  Anyone know?

ETA:  NM, found the answer (authorize the charge but don't actually charge it until shipped)

Delton parts are top quality.  I have ordered many parts from them and always had great cooperation and communication. Can't go wrong dealing with them.

Del-ton is tops in my book, They make sure you get what you ordered! If there's a problem they get in touch with you before they ship! Top notch customer service!

Recieved two weeks ago? When did you place the order? Placed my first of three orders mid Dec so am going on 12 weeks now.

I have a stripped lower, and am strongly considering purchasing Del-Ton's M4 kit: http://www.del-ton.com/Rifle_Kit_p/rkt100.htm

Seems like a very good deal when packaged together, much cheaper for the rifle I want than buying it piece by piece.  I have no problem waiting four months as long as it's quality and what it's supposed to be when it gets to my doorstep.  Everyone seems to have positive things comments about Del-Ton's quality; is there any reason I shouldn't get this kit?
Thanks.
