Question for the hive--

My father has been in the Iowa National Guard for 30 years.  He is getting ready to deploy to the sandbox for a year.  When we gets back, he wants to build his own AR-15 from a kit.  I've had a Rock River Entry Tactical for a few months, but I don't have any real exposure to other brands of AR.  I noticed on Del-Ton's website that their kits are $465 minus the stripped receiver.  What kind of rifle does Del-Ton put out?  I'd appreciate any relevant info.  Thanks!

I've had really good luck with their stuff personally, and I've never heard anything bad from anyone, so I'd say go for it.

I built my Spikes Tactical receiver on a Del-Ton 20" kit.  I've never had an issues with the rifle and would reccomend Del-Ton kits as a good entry level AR's.  It also appears that the upgrades to the kits are well priced as well.  Good solid kits.

I just put a basic Del-Ton flat-top 16" carbine together for a friend of mine.  The Del-ton kit is really a nice kit.  Fit and finish is first rate.  The upper matched the lower DPMS receiver we picked up at Adco Firearms in Sylvania.  No unsightly gaps.  Nice color/finish match.  The upper was pre-assembled, so no surprises there.  The lower parts kit, while probably basic gi stuff went in the DPMS lower without a hitch.  Overall, I am very impressed with the Del-ton kits.

I like mine.  First AR, good fit, good finish, no worries.

I just built two del ton kits on mega lowers. I have always wanted an ar and with the help of this site both turned out great. Fit and finish were flawless.

I have built 3 Delton Kits now. The first one I still use on the job. Over 2000 round without a jam or problem of any kind. I will buy these over any other kit and the prices are great. I only shoot Remington UMC ammo through it. No problems. Buy one with confidence. They are good people at Delton. Never any problems. I did use a Superior Arms lower with the adjustable trigger and it works great!
Good Luck.

Hope this isn't a hijack, but how long does it take for you guys to recieve your kits?

I'm going on 2-3 weeks without a ship notice or money taken.

There was a little hickup in that they didn't have non-chrome-lined Middy barrels, but I changed my order a week ago... Haven't heard anything since.  I sent an email tonight asking about it.

I know it'll turn out OK, just curious if I'm special or if it normally takes this long to ship.

i had a backorderd stock but they emailed me, once i changed the order to a normal stock I had the kit in 5 days.

Expect them to get heavy on back orders in the next couple weeks.

The delton rifles can sometimes be had cheaper assembled than by kit. I could have saved quite a bit of money that way, but then I wouldn't have gotten to assemble it or put a different lower on it (unless I did so after the fact).

I ordered my 20" chrome-lined A2 kit on October 5th.  I was told they were backordered and that they would be back in stock in 5-6 weeks.  Halfway there! (I hope) hinking.gif

They are great kits and more importantly have great customer service.  I would consider them along with Model1Sales.com (I like some of the configurations and options on Model1Sales).

Built 4 Del-Ton M4 kits, 1 with 1/7 twist and 3 with 1/9 all chrome lined.  Shoot as good or better than my Colts, Bushies and LMT.  I am getting ready to order 3 more in the next few weeks.  People are nice and delivery was always before stated date!

How'd you like that 1/7 barrel vs. the 1/9? That's my final dilemma in this kit.

Call them. Granted I think they only have one or two people (every time i called it was the same person answering) in the CS department but they do an awesome job.

In response to a555,  I found the 1/7 twist was very accurate with the heavier bullets i.e. 60gr up to 69gr.  What was really fun was running 53 gr spire points through it,  they actually blew up about 3 feet in front of the muzzle.  All told I will probable stick with 1/9 twist barrels in the future because they will handle every type and weight of bullet I use.

Order time all depends on availability at the time.  If they have it in stock stuff ships same or next day from my experience.  Super people to deal with though and they keep you informed at every step if backordered.

I ordered a 20" A2 Black Fixed Stock rifle kit via the 'net on last Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday afternoon, when I got home from work, I found an e-mail from Del-Ton that they were out of black A2 stocks, and it could be up to a four week delay.

On Wednesday AM, I called Del-Ton on the phone and asked if they had all three pieces in green.  They did, so I had them change the order to green instead of black.  When I got home that afternoon and checked e-mail, I had an e-mail that the kit was done and in shipping, and I had a tracking number.  Again, that was Wednesday.  I don't believe that UPS actually picked it up until Thursday, but I received the kit, complete and in good condition, on Monday.

No, I just got the Chrome-Molly barrel - not chrome-lined.  So what, are they out of stock on chrome-lined or something?  Interested because my son want's to build a 16" flat-top now.

I'm new to rifles and looking to build my first AR15. I picked up a few lower receivers from my local shop today and was considering the Del-ton M4 for my first build. Is this a good decision for a first timer and how much more will I have to invest to get a decent starter AR?

My 16" CARBINE barrel is .980" for about 1.5" infront of the barrel nut, then tapers to .875"  up to the FSB, then is .728 from the front of the FSB to the flash-hider.

Pretty heavy.  Not like a solid .936" dia.  but more than I expected when I ordered my kit.

I gotta say, this thing has run beautifully, though.  over 200 rounds with not 1 hickup.  zero problems whatsoever.

Ok so I've edited my order to be the 16 LIGHT rifle kit.

# 16 LW Rifle Kit -Barrel:DTI 16" 1x9 Chrome Lined Light Weight Barrel
# 16 Rifle Kit / Rifle -Handguards:CAR Handguards with Heat Shields - Green
# Rifle Kit / Rifle -BC:Standard Bolt & Carrier
# Rifle Kit / Rifle -Buttstock:M4 Buttstock - Green
# Rifle Kit / Rifle -Grips:Ergo Green Grip -Right
# Rifle Kit / Rifle-Carrying Handle:Detachable Carrying Handle (Flat Top's ONLY)
# Rifle Kit / Rifle-Flash Hiders:A2 Flash Hider
# Rifle Kit / Rifle-Gas Blocks:Standard A2 Front Sight
# Rifle Kit / Rifle-Lower Parts:Standard Lower Parts
# Rifle Kit / Rifle-T Handle:Standard Charging Handle
# Rifle Kit / Rifle-Uppers:Flat Top Upper with T-Marks

I added a Carrying Handle- $75!- Should i not include the handle and purchase a different one (I think I saw some for $30)

Again- I am assuming this is a .223 rifle, or does that depend on the lower I purchase?
Are there any Lowers that will not match this rifle kit?

I hope to submit my order either tonight or tomorrow so your feedback is appreciated!!

Calm down cudexter. Whatever you order may or may not be on BO. It's a craps shoot at this point where everyone is ordering stuff. Try getting in touch with del-ton tomorrow or order tonight if you want. The list looks fine. Just remember to get a rear sight so you can shoot it once you assemble it. Only delete the rear sight if you KNOW you are able to get one cheaper/better. Just take a breather. You will get answers. And yes, if you scroll down on the del-ton page with your rifle kit it is 5.56 ans .223. You're good to go if that's the kit you want.
