I hope I'm posting this in the right place but is there a way to remove a delta ring without cutting it off? I'm getting a free floating rail today and it says to cut the delta ring off. If I could keep it from getting messed up I'd like to do that.

Forgive my ignorance but is that an easy job or should I just cut it off and pay 15 bucks for a new one later if I decide I need it again?

juts cut it off, unless you have the proper tools and know how, barrel removal should be your last option.

Do you have a barrel wrench? Also, do you have snap ring pliers?

If you have both, then go ahead and take off the barrel. I would recommend this route because, even though it is fairly easy to cut the delta ring, there is room for error if you slip up and put a cut into the barrel.

Also, use a proper barrel wrench, not a pipe wrench.

This link has step by step instructions on how to remove your barrel.  It is fairly easy if you have the right tools.

+1 .. Not that big a deal with the right tools. And sounds like you already have the "disease" might as well invest in the tools now it will save headaches down the road. IMHO

That I do. My MI free floating handguards will be in today but I'm planning on keeping the handguards that came on the DMPS and would like to keep the delta ring intact if I could. I do need to invest in a set of tools so I can keep my stick well maintained.

or you could just remove the whole assembly and buy just a barrel nut.  You will probably need a complete delta ring assembly for your next build anyway<BAG>
