| What exactly is different about colt and other AR manufacturers, pin size for lowers? Sorry I'm a noob at ARs |
|
For the most part, yes, but some (like you said) have larger fire control group pins, and some have larger pivot pin holes. For those with the larger pivot pin holes, adapters can be used to mate them to a small hole lower, or mate a small hole upper to a large hole lower |

The one that I just bought from Gunbroker specifically stated that it was a small pin FCG. It will be here Monday. |

Ok, I am a noob but I have been in this forum long enough to know the rivalry between Colt vs the others. What I mean is what makes Colt incompatible with other manufacturers ie: swapping uppers, lowers, parts, etc. None of the new Colts are incompatible with other manufacturers as far as swapping uppers/lowers. There are a few that still use the larger FCG pins which only affect the trigger groups you can buy. However, If you buy a new 6920 or 6940 it will be just as versatile as any other AR out there since they now use the normal sized pins. This means you can switch uppers/lowers/parts as much as you please. |
| all right,, let's wind some people up––––the difference betwen colt and others––––- is that simply that standard others are judged by,, is colt. i just don't remember ever seeing a thread a thread where someone asks "is my bcm as good as a stag"??? the colt bashers are everywhere [ and i ''spect they secretly wish they had a pony in there stable] trying to justify why the rifle bought for $599 is better than a colt,, but,, we KNOW they are full of fecal matter. i |

It has been alleged that the reason that Colt uses bigger pins it that the commercial guns use parts that failed quality control inspection for the military. Mis-located holes can be re-drilled to a larger diameter and the lower receiver thus saved from the scrap heap. I suspect that this is true.
And the real difference between a Colt AR and another AR is (as the Welshman said when asked about the difference between Scotch and Irish whiskey) the spelling. |

They used the larger holes to prevent people from using M-16 FCG parts to convert the rifle to full auto. |
| Colt is what others are judged against. The best part of this is there are more quality AR's now than ever. Colt has helped this along. I own 4 of them now and 2 Armalites but have handled and inspected quite a few others. Noveske, Larue, BCM, DD, to name a few that are excellent rifles. |
