anybody done calculations or better yet real world weighing to see which one had a greater weight loss for the same length on a similar barrel? dimple vs. flute? they would have to be to the same depth and I'm talking about the ADCO dimple pattern, not the KAC. I've got a 20" barrel i want to put on a little diet for better handling. It's getting cut back to 18" but is .800" under the HG. I want to lose some weight under the HG also, but don't want to turn the o.d. any less than it already is.
Thanks! advntrjky |

If you have ADCO turn the barrel the bore will be as concentric if not more so to the outside meat...had a barrel dimpled and fluted fluting is a better
option (for weight loss) re-contouring is the best option and is also cheaper...imo Ask over on ADCO's Industry forum they are very forthcoming about "best options". |

Thanks for the input guys. I know what turning the OD will get, that's why I asked about dimple and flutes. As for cost and concentricty....it's a custom Teppo Jutsu barrel and I am just fine tuning it a little for my needs. Anybody else that has some data from personal experience?

"Ghetto dimpling"
Used a drill press and ghetto dimpled a 16" stainless Clerke 10/22 bull barrel. Actually came out pretty good. I forgot how much weight it lost. Did not make a difference in accuracy that I could tell. I ended up putting the factory 18" barrel back on because it was a hair lighter and grouped Federal bulk box much better. Everyone knows you don't use a Dremel to flute a barrel, use an angle grinder!!
