Any idea when they transitioned out? I found information on the bolt catch but nothing about the pins, selector and mag release.

Just guessing: ...because the dimples were not needed and removing the dimples reduced cost of the pieces?

You may be able to get a timeline on retro black rifle if you click on the different models.I know they mention the XM16E1 cold have either or,early 603 I would guess could have,but mid and later 603 I doubt would have them..Just my guess.
