I have an Model one upper , 16inch Shaw barrel and standard A2 buttstock. When I first put it together it dinged the ejected  cases in the middle about half way between the head and shoulder . As I have fired more rounds through it seems to have become less of a dent and even not at all in some . I have put about 500 throught it . Also it does not eject as far as my BM DCM or DPMS DCM models . It only throws about 3 or 4 feet . Shoot Fed. american eagle and hand loads and Adcom , seems the same no matter what ammo .Had one FTE and no other problems .  What caused the dings and is this normal for 16inch  rilfes to not eject as far as a 20inch ?

Half C type dents toward the rim of the spent case are caused by the back of the ejection port (bolt face allowed to retract too far back (past the back of the ejection port) into the upper receiver).

Dents towards the shoulder and the neck of the spent case are caused by the upper receiver deflector.  To solve these dents (if you are going to reload the cases and worried about the dents) is to just put a piece of Velcro or tape on the face of the upper receiver deflector.

Long straight dents front the shoulder of the case to the rim are caused by mags not allowing the live case to be pushed back down into the mag as the carrier moves back over the top round, cleaning and breaking in the USGI type mags solves the problem.

If you post a photo of a dented case and I can tell you exactly what is casing the dents, and how to fix it if needed (read reloading the cases).

Sorry no pic capabilities . The cases are dinged almost exactly in the center of the length of the cartridge, (if that makes sense to you) .The ding is slightly curved and about 1/8 inch long , running perpindicular to the length of the case . Thanks .

it sounds like the dents are from the brass deflector. i would bet that using velcro tape on the deflector would sotp the denting.
