I'm trying to remove the floorplate on one of this mags (one of the parkerized ones with the "England" sticker) to replace the spring, but for the life of me I can't remove the thing. I'm trying to pry at the tab (just like I do with USGI mags), but instead of sliding off (like with GI), it just stays there, doing its best to bend, while I do my best not to break it. Is there any trick at removing it without breaking anything? |
| I do this with a helper my son. I first oil the tabs along with the sides of the floorplate. Then I use a punch "with the same size of the floorplate hole" to pull the floorplate out. I let my son use a small screw driver to pry the front of the floorplate against the front mag body while I use the punch to pull the floorplate out. When the floorplate moves a little, I then use a bigger screw driver to pry it out. They are tough to take off when new. |
| I have replaced the springs and followers in 20 of my British SA80 steel mags. I used a small pair of fine needle nose pliers. The same kind of pliers used for small electronics work or jewlers repair work. I grap the small tab at the rear of the floor plate and pull and wiggle the floor plate loose as I pull. I have had good luck using this method. I would never bend the tabs btw. I hope this helps. Goodluck! |

Finally! I used a combination of using a punch through the bottom hole, pulling on the tab, and pushing from the rear with a flat screwdriver, until the thing slid off. It was a PITA, but eventually, it came out. Thanks!! I was spoiled with how easy it is to remove the plate in a USGI mag. |
