I am trying to come up with some type of case that doesn't scream AR or rifle. I like to carry one or two ar's when traveling and want something that can be carried into a motel room without the hole world knowing I have a weapon. I would prefer it be a soft case. I am at a lose so through the ideas out there.
Thanks for your ideas. |

When I travel with AR's this is the breakdown case I use.
Castle Rock Tactical Discreet I know a lot of people that simply use a Tennis Racket bag. |
| I have a Larue Covert Case, and it's construction is second to none. Check out this thread: Larue Covert Case Thread |

Guitar case w/ room for rifle and handgun + mags
Soft dual guitar case w/ room for two guns (scroll to bottom) Or just look for some duffel bags that are 44" long or if you don't mind taking down your rifle just find a suitcase that measures 32" from inside corner to inside corner. put a thin layer of foam between them and then put your clothes on top of that. |

how about a hard gun case...example.

Agreed, it screams rifle. Pelican cases are great though, as with many others I use mine when I fly. |

No no hard cases, they scream rifle. Pelican case say I have something worth protection which also means money. I like the tennis racket bag idea, very discrete and if they needed to be carried through a town or along a road for some reason it defiantly doesn't say gun. I also like the guitar idea although like stated guitars can also mean money. The equipment bag is a good idea also.
I found reference to a member named Forest who may have done the racket bag deal. Searched the boards and archives but can't seam to find anything. Maybe he will post up or I will have to send him a message. |

There are some nice ideas, but I am not sure about the golf case as a discrete bag. There are golf clubs that cost a lot of money (1000+) which could be worth it to a burglar. One does not keep their rifle in such a case at home, that's a good way to promote rust. These cases are for discrete transport, like when you're on vacation, traveling to a class or match and dont want to alarm the hotel guests. |

Nice bag, did ya check the price? |

Thanks for the clarification Forest, I was thinking of a slightly longer term storage than transport a rifle from a vehicle to a hotel room. |

Thanks for this thread, good ideas here! I've been wanting something like this and like the idea of a tennis racquet bag, etc.
In fact maybe the best disguise would be a fleabitten looking thing from a thrift store (that you've fixed on the inside). Something that screams you're poor and play on public courts with crappy gear - not at a ritzy racquet club. Might help if you just got out of a 15 year old Toyota Tercel, too! |

Forest is correct but I have left them in a bag for several weeks at a time without issue. As long as you keep it oiled and check it ever so often it will be fine. The problem is when you forget about it for months or even years which is an easy thing to do if you have a life and family! |

One option of many:
03designgroup | Blue Force Gear D.A.P. Discreet Carbine Case |
|
oh yea, that's really discrete. if i saw that, i'd be asking you, what's inside, and can i have it, since it has Noveske and Magpul stickers. |
|
I don't see how its price point is really any different than the LaRue, BFG, LWRC/BFG, Pelican, or especially the Noveske offerings posted- I don't buy the whole long narrow nylon briefcase thing as discreet in my opinion bats/rackets/tools/guitars have a value attached to them that are easily known to thieves that would see them as easily pawnable- The Cav Arms bag at a quick glance looks like a bag a collapsible camping chair would be in due to its dimensions- If my status as a student didn't preclude me from having a firearm in my car- then it would be the bag I would choose- |

Would not draw to much attention strapped to the outside of your GHB or BOB. While I find most of the bags posted very nice and I would not mind having a couple I do have to agree with the above posters about price. There is no way I want to spend that kind of money on a bag. Face it the bags might not say weapon but they do say you have something worth protecting which is worth steeling. Also I see no need to have to store a big case weather it be a Pelican case or a soft case. When at home my weapons are stored in a gun safe (well most anyway), they come out and get but in to cheap soft cases to get transported to the range and such. |

They work Ok, depends on the bag. I have an old camp chair bag for such a purpose but I've only used it once. When a rifle is in the bag it really doesn't look like a camp chair is in it. The zippered bags are better than the drawstring bags as muzzles tend to work themselves out of the openings. |
| Some of these are borderline conceal carry I think, like backpack. Here in Wisconsin we have an strict no conceal carry law, so that begs the question what is the line between encased and concealed? I wouldn't want to be put in a situation of an officers judgment call. |

Concealed: Loaded magazine(s) / ammo in the same compartment. |

| I think some people are over thinking this. The most discrete bag to use here would be a luggage bag or back pack as 99.9% of people checking in to a hotel have this same item. Also, I would be more concerned with a way to secure it in the room as it's more likely to get stolen by a maid or hotel employee than some joe dirtball who saw you take it to your room. |
