I have a colt A2 20" HBAR, and am thinking of having the barrel cut into a dissipater, and running a 3 prong FS , I love the look question is, should I just buy a dissipater barrel, or have the 20" shortened? oh, and where to buy the 3 prong FS? |
| Just shortening a 20" barrel might cause some reliablity problems. Dissy barrels have a carbine lenth gas tube, but the front sight is mounted farther forward. Get a M4 profile instead of the HBar. I've gotten complete dissipator style uppers from both Bushmaster and Defensive Edge. There in the industry section. |

The model 605 was basically an M-16 with a 15" barrel ending just in front of the front sight block. Relaibility was not an issue. The 16" dissy configuration made by cutting down a 20" barrel is used by many LEO's and again does not create any reliability issues and does not require a larger gas port. |

Some who have cut barrels down have had issues that were solved by opening up the gas port. I had this same question a couple years ago. Steve at ADCO actually convinced me not to use his service as cutting, rethreading and recrowning etc... added up to a substantial part of the price of a new barrel. I ended up getting a BM barrel with the M4 profile and really like my dissipator. Best part is that with an extra barrel you have a great excuse to build another upper at least if not another rifle. Which is exactly how my BRD started, so beware. Seydou ETA spelling |
I have the same thing as you. Mine is cut down, and works fine. Open gas port to 0.110" diameter (7/64" drill bit). |
I think I will do that and that is the look I am going for |
