If an AR-15 doesn't have some form of carry handle, something's not right.
I originally posted this in the retro picture thread, but it's more at home here...
This isn't just a middy, it's my first build. This gun was Inspired by the Colt Model 605, but with improvements built in like a match barrel, and A2 sights. I think this would best decried as an A1 dissipator. I do want to get an A1 grip for this eventually. The buttstock and handguard are both surplus A1. White Oak Armament 16" stainless steel barrel, wylde chamber, 1/8 twist, mid length gas system and a three prong flash hider. Rock River Arms lower, A2 upper, bolt carrier group, and 2 stage match trigger. C-More CSCT My goal with this build was to have the looks of the original m16 but with the benefits of a modern AR. I like shooting with a red dot, and I thought the C-more looked right on a "retro" style build; unfortunately it's total crap. |

I tried the gooseneck too (with an eotech) and while it worked I felt it was way too heavy and bulky for the purpose. with the longer sight radios, iron sights were quick and accurate enough at the ranges I require.

The issue isn't really with the gooseneck set up it's the C-More it's self, The thing is nearly imposible to get into zero, and once you have it close, it never holds zero. I have only been able to use it effectively up to 50 yards, after that it's a wild guess. |

To start, the screw that holds the gooseneck in place backs out all the time and is hard to apply a decent amount of torque to. This can easily be fixed with loctite and using a pair of vice grips to tighten it (marring waiting to happen), I would prefer to not have to do either.
The next issue is trying to get the thing zeroed. The C-More doesn't use indexed adjustments, you just get to guess! The adjustments are also far from precise. Most of the time I find the easiest way to set up a red dot to co-witness is to move the dot until it's just on top of the front sight post. This is less than easy with the c-more. When you go to turn the screws you have to apply pressure to the unit, vertically or horizontally depending on which adjustment. The gooseneck is very flexible, so when you make an adjustment the whole unit is pushed slightly out of alignment, so you can't just line it up to the sites. The windage and elevation adjustments are also very stiff and use a rather retarded friction locking mechanism, and I swear that when you lock down the adjustment screw it shifts the dot. The lens also seems to be very susceptible to glair. Since it's useless at long ranges I now just have a shinny obstruction between my front and rear sight... The only thing I like about the c More is that the dot is bright and visible in all lighting conditions. I know c-mores are cheap, but I would expect a little more... |

Hi everyone! Well please accept my apologies for not putting a picture. I will once I get my Dissy. The first Dissy I ver saw was in a Gun Mag, it is made by Doublestar, didn't know they existed. I've reread that article a couple of times. I was recently watching "Bourne Identity" and in the movie the security detail at the embassy where using a couple of Dissys. To me Dissipators make so much sense. Since we mere mortals are restricted to 16". It also gives you a chance to "stand away from the crowd" As you can see not to many Dissy pics. The article didn't mention anything on how the Dissipator came to exist. I understand that the word Dissipator was "coined" by Bushmaster for this model. Can anybody tell?
